Fan only works on high
Hello
It appears that the fan unit only works on high and not any other speed in the car. I believe this has happened before but I do not know what I did to correct it when it last happened.
Is there some fuse that needs to be changed? If not, do you know what else it could be?
Thanks
Gmax

There are lots of threads telling you what the problem might be, but I couldn't find anything about how to fix it other than replacing it. Here's what I did:
-pull the thing out - it's under the glove box, search for that (in the forums, I mean)
-bust out your soldering iron
-see the bumpy things on it? You have to scrape those off or use the soldering iron to fix them up. Either way, you have to heat those bump things up and remake the connection. It wouldn't hurt to add some new solder on there.
The fsm says not to do this, but my car hasn't set on fire yet.
You can check it with a ohm-meter, instead of plugging it back in after soldering.
Good luck!

This happened on my 87 toyota camry I just replaced it with a junkyard unit.
When the fan is on low or medium the unit gets a little hot because its taking the
extra energy from the battery and using it to heat up rather then send the energy
to the blower. Slowing it down on various setting like a dimmer switch.
