anybody bought a rack and pinion from ebay? i saw one for $150 remanufactured r they reliable auto store more than $300.......

 

a remanufactured anything is only as good as whoever remanufactured it. I would be leery of something selling at half the going price. The e-bay one may be just fine but there's no way to tell except try it.

 

I wd be leery too of ebay rack and pinion.

 

Seriously, I don't know about ebay, I've had a bad experience with ignition coils from there. Always tempting to try to save a few bucks but in the long run comes back to be a PITA.

 

Need Coils? I gotch'ya.

Rack? Hell No. OEM FTW. Or at least something with a Warrenty.

For something thats easy to change, you can go cheap on parts. A steering rack is something that's probably gonna cost more in labor if you pay someone to do it so it would make sense to spend more on the part.

 

Advance has it under $300 (though not by a lot: $278+125 core). As far as my experience goes, Cardone stuff is pretty decent. I'm with these guys on not trusting Ebay for important parts.

 

what are the signs of it going out? im trying to figure out if mines going...

As far as people have told me, these rack and pinions go bad only if you have ignored replacing the boots when torn and it develops a leak. If you have a whining noise, chances are its the power steering pump which is part of the aging of these cars. Mine needs one and the aftermarket ones are no good. Dealer wants over $500 for one....gotta bite the bullet and save the money.
