1997 car wont start

ive been trying to search on this subject, finding a vast variety of different things.
heres the deal, had the crank shaft replaced by nissan a month ago, had the ecu changed (from modified to stock) a week ago.
car has been run every day since to get to work and back. filled up the gas tank, went home. tried to start, nothing. at first i was getting a "grinding" crank noise. after a few times of trying further, all it does now is a simple click sound. called AAA, they said that the battery is good (radio, alarm works) and he cannot jump it. What can it be? I read a thread on here about a fuel pump fuse? I pulled the 6th fuse inside the car, believe it was a 15amp. it was good. starter and fuel pump were never replaced on it, now with 139k miles. how can i tell if one is not working? what am i listening for? all i hear is a faint click when i turn the key.

thanks

Starter. Try hitting it with a wrench or just replace it.

If you turn the key and don't hear the starter spin or feel it engage you can assume it is a bad starter.

Did you really have the crankshaft replaced at the dealer, meaning internal engine work? How much did that set you back in cost?

Yo man...it prolly be cheaper to buy a used engine and swap it in than replace crankshaft.

+1 on the starter too

oil change, power steering FLUSH, crank shaft replaced = $300 at the dealership, formally known as the stealership LOL

You NEED the breaker bar if that's your original starter. That bolt is torqued down to some very tight specs compared to the others for some odd reason.

I am also having a starting issue. It cranks fine but will not fire when cold. I can pop start it and after running it for a while I can shut it off and turn it back on with the key. ECT or IAT? I don't know.

Either your starter is gettin weak or CKPS (tranny side) is fouled.

First perform the TB, MAF cleaning. Check CPS per FSM specs. Check to see if CKPS is fouled and specs per FSM. Get starter tested. These are the low cost solutions. Replace anything thats not up to spec.

That dont work, replace ECTS. That dont work check coils (even tho i dont think thats yur problem) and plugs per FSM.

Holla back at us if none of that works. Check grounds too.

+1 on the PB.

Starter bolt should come out like a charm. Careful not to strip the head off cuz that would suck.

youll need to put a breaker bar on your ratchet. no one is strong enough to turn that bolt without one.

half inch drive ratchet would also be recomended but not necessary.

I put the bar from one of those cheaper floor jacks on the end of my ratchet and it was just enough

overall an easy starter job.

take it out and have it tested at the auto part store for free.
