Not sure about AE skirts but I'm currently messing around with 2002-03 skirts, so far I've determined that they go with the same contour as the 4th gen in regards to the wheel wells and door curve near the rocker panels. Based on an educated guess by placing the 2002-03 skirts over the 4th gen... it looks like a simple cut and removal of a few inches in the middle to shorten the sideskirt should allow them to fix nice and flush.
I know people claim it can't be done bla bla bla but I'm gonna work on it on my spare time and see what the outcome turns out to be.
