True but look at the resale value of an Accord vs. Maxima.

i drove a 2002 accord the other day and it didnt even compare to my 98 max se. The only thing I liked about the accord was the brakes. The maxima is more a drivers car while the accord is made for older peole, such as a much softer suspension. If I were you I would get the max I have a friend with a 2001 accord coupe v6 and he wants to get rid of it and get a maxima or the 2002 altima.

yeah.. that's why he should take advantage of it and buy a 98 Maxima instead of a 98 Accord.

Maxima is sportier, rarer, and not officially a family sedan. It has an identity crisis. I like that. It is fast enough to be considered a sports sedan, and the 5spd pulls hard.

I think of the accord as a bland boring family sedan that noone pays attention to. You can do so much more with a Maxima. I dont even like to compare a Max to an accord, imbarrasing.

Get a Maxima or you will be sorry bro.

I just purchased a 98' Maxima GXE over a Honda Prelude and Honda Accord. After owning the newer max, personally I wish I had just stayed with my 91' Maxima GXE. And if I had to do it over again, I would have went with either the Prelude or the Accord over the Maxima. The resale value of the Honda's are much higher, they have a longer warranty, and their reliability is just as good if not better than Nissan. Also they have a ton more aftermarket parts if you're looking to go that way. And I think the Honda's have a slightly more comfortable seats, but I don't like either for the interior as far as the dashes etc go. Just my two cents.

Go sit in the corner for that info is WRONG. An accord does 0-60 in 8 seconds. My automagic '95 in the low 7's.

Sorry dude but that doesn't matter. Maybe clee's car was slower than average...maybe the accord was modded. I've beaten PLENTY of V6 accords at a stoplight fully racing. I also have a 96 GXE with just the C&C package. That makes my car about 250 lbs lighter, and about the same horsepower with more torque.

Most sources say the 95-98 Max is faster but not by much. I say its the drivers skill. Max also has other things going for it like a better interior (personal preference), smoother engine, and its supposedly more reliable (JD power, ref: carpoint).

Yes when you buy 3 ~ 4 year old Accord or Maxima, you are taking advantage of Max's low resale value. Assume you bought Max and keep it for another few yaers, the resale value difference gets smaller and smaller, and you sell it. The net is a gain, not a loss, with Maxima purchase.
I definately want Maxima now. When I change my driving habit or just for a change, I'd buy Camry that I think is better and much quieter than any Honda car.

Clee's car is almost a second slower than another STOCK 1998 Maxima (Deezo). Now YOU go sit in the corner. 16.4 vs. 15.6 in the 1/4.

ok... but why? what if the 98 max hes buying is like clees

clee ran a 16.14 with a 2.518 60' time... he couldn't launch, but he did ok in the accord video and stayed ahead off the line.

when deezo ran 2.468 60' he got 16.058 and his best run he got 2.278 60' and 1/4 time of 15.629

Well ... I guess I should be sorta honored that my name and my races with the Accord have been brought up in this debate.

But remember, these races were on the street... illegally I might add. There were no timeslips, there was no 1/4 miles end marker.

So I lost to an Accord, so what? Does that mean every Maxima is going to lose to an Accord? Does this mean that every Accord is going to win over a Maxima? No. In the races that took place, I happened to lose.

The Accord was a 99 or 00 with Altezzas that's it. I have an intake and I'm running on 15s.

And honestly, I wish I could take several features from my mom's 00 Accord and put them into my Maxima. Speed and who wins in a stoplight race doesn't determine which car is better. Both are good cars, both have excellent qualities to them.

even "IF/IF/IF/IF/IF/MAYBE/POSSIBLILY/COULD BE/MIGHT HAPPEN/MAYBE "VQ is slower than the AV6 I'll take VQ anyday, its 2x smoother, & feels faster off the line(torque). BTW did that accord run on the track if yes what was the time?

the 95-96 Max's are the fastest because they are the lightest. 97-98 are faster than 99. All are faster than an Accord

used honda...

NEVER!!!

The rule is:
Buy Honda brand NEW, buy Nissan used. This way, you can take advantage of the resale value of the Honda while it still has some (3-5 years), or when you buy a used Nissan, you get a huge break b/c of it's low resale value.

I bought my '99 brand new, and I kick myself in the *** once a week. Shoulda gone out and found a used one. Dammit.

Also, jesus christ buy the Maxima unless you're really old and could care less about having *fun* when you drive.

Re: 98 Accord Coupe V6 vs. 98 Maxima

I'd buy the maxima just for the engine itself. Read the articles about the engine at www.nis-knacks.com and just see how much praise it gets. There are too many honda's out there anyways. Be different.

Are you talking about buying or racing? In a race, it's the Maxima, hands down. Ask Deezo. I KILLED one when he was behind me. And it had exhaust and such, and I was very close to stock at the time.

edit: regardless, I'd go with the maxima. I think they are better all-around because the 4-door Accords are mad sleds, and they all only come in automatic. And then the Max is still somehow sportier even with the all-useful 4 doors.

I have a 95 Max with catback exhaust and intake, i met a 200 accord v6 at a line, and there was 1/4 mile of road ahead. I talked with him at the line and he worked for Honda he said he had dual Greddy cat back exhaust and cold air intake. So we raced and he kept up with my untill 3rd gear and then i just pulled away, a very strong car. but 95% sure youll smoke him. GooD Luck

Do you just drive the engine or the whole car? I like my Maxima but I would take my mom's Accord's stock suspension and brakes anyday over mine. Don't know what the Accord ran at the track. I doubt he ever ran at the track. And at the time I ran him, I never ran at the track before either.

Yeah, my webhost took it down temporarily because it thought the videos are copyrighted. I'm dealing with the issue now.

Same... except for the engine, my roommate's 2k Accord V6 is a much nicer car than mine. If it weren't for the VQ I would have bought a 6th gen Accord over my Maxima.

How about Solara vs. Maxima?

Anyone know if
Automatic Maxima will beat a Solara auto?
Stock for Stock.
Solara is brand spanking new, and Maxima has 100K on it.
How about with VB mod?

I beat a 02 camry V6 with my 99 maxima, it was a close one, won by 1.5 car length by 100km/h.

I read all the time about how honda's 3.0 is so slow compared to the Max, so I have to rant. How many of you out their own a honda/acura with a 3.0 and a max at the same time. I don't mean, a "friends" but one that you can get into and drive anytime you want. I have a 98 3.0CL and a 97 GXE. My Max feels like it would smoke the Acura at all speeds. This is not true. My friend took my wife's CL and we raced down a deserted highway at 2 am. I beat my CL off the line by a GOOD half car length and we stayed like that until 110, at 110 the CL closed the gap and started pulling. The Max shifted automatically into overdrive at 119 and we shut down at 125. The CL was a complete car length ahead when we shut down. I know from experience that the Max will shove you back in the seat while the CL seems agonizingly slow to the same speed but they were damn near even up to 115 mph. Same goes for my friends 98 Camry 3.0. We were dead even to 100 mph. I know I don't have the fastest Max (K-N filter and a St. Christopher statue on the dash) but I don't believe I have the slowest either.
I am now done with Volume 1 pages 1-37 of my Chronicles of a stock Max. Thanks to everybody bored enough to read this far down and to all the tech support this site has helped me with.

If this is accurate and if I'm choosing one of these two cars for my daily drive, the winner is Maxima. Everyday most of us need low-end power, and not all of the driver care about high-end...
