Mystery Water(?) in cabin

So today i was driving, turned onto an off-ramp from the highway when i hear a noise that sounds sorta like one of those rain-maker noise stick thingies. So i pull into my driveway a few blocks later and see that in the passenger side there is water on the floor that looked like it was dripping onto the mat. I touched the wet spots and it didn't have a any distinct smell and on a whim i decided to taste it, didn't have any taste. It was clear as well so i'm assuming it's water.I feel around and i can feel that under the dash is kinda cold and clammy. There was something that felt like a metal box underneath the dash, that felt like the most wet part. So anyone know what might have caused this? This has never happened before. There was a pretty big storm around here yesterday so i though perhaps water had collected somewhere or something, not really sure. Any thoughts?

Could be one of two things, could be condensation leak from the a/c evaporator (pain in the ****) or you can run water on the outside of the car and see if one of your drain tubes is leaking water inside.

Trying to taste any liquid that can come from your car is absolutely stupid, period.

Anyway, check your a/c evaporator.

Haha that was very brave of you to taste some mystery liquid.

For some reason I keep wanting to taste coolant when I fill my radiator because the green coolant looks like that Gatorade rain and the green one happens to look just like coolant.... yummy....

If you have a sun/moon roof the run off drain tubing gets clogged up and then leaks into floor. If you have an air compressor u can blow out the clog.

I distinctly saw him say taste, not chugging it down. Tasting is a common way to check if a fluid suspected of being antifreeze is or isn't.

A touch to the tongue, if it's sweet it's antifreeze.

Drinking it will kill you or your pets.

I don't think that the warning label on the jug says "chug" or "drink". I am pretty sure it says "ingestion", which is tasting.

Please tell me were tasting is introduced as a good way to test for antifreeze.

I mean it was from my fingertip, the size of a pea tops, and not to mention i don't know of any other completely clear liquids used in cars. I'm obviously not dead so it's whatever. I understand where you are coming from though. But i was pretty much 99% sure it was water. Normally not something i would do.
So the general consensus sounds like A/C condensation? I was running the AC that night and it was hot and humid but it was quite a bit of water. probably a 6" puddle on the mat along with various drips. Seems like a lot for just condensation to me.

Drain tube for the evaporator is probably plugged with leaves/debris.

I would first remove the glove box and see where the water is coming from exactly.

The proper way to clean the evaporator box would be to take it apart but that's a lot of work. You could probably stick a close hanger up there to clear out the blockage but it may become blocked again.

Best pic I could come up with. The drain is circled.

+1 AC drainage. Had this happen in a Toyota years ago. Was just simply a disconnected drain hose but it filled the floorboard with about a gallon on water in about 2 hours. On that ride It was as simple as looking down there and reconnecting the little guy.

And Funk, i just had the car in the shop less than a week ago so i'm sure it's possible said hose got jostled loose while the mech. was working around down there. I'll check that too though, thanks for the help guys.

Joe--couple more questions. You said to take out the glovebox, is this very difficult to do? And as for cleaning evaporator box, where would i find it to go about getting a hanger in there or whatever?

Taking out the glove box is very easy. It's only 6 screws. Once it's out start the car with ac on and see if you can tell where the water is coming from.

If the drain is plugged you would shove the hanger where i circled it in red in the engine bay.

Alrighty cool, well the question is how do i get at that drain then? I'm thinking i'm not going to get through the engine bay to get all the way down there, can it be cleaned from inside the cabin or would i need to jack up the car and get at it from underneath?
