Sell or Keep??

My 4th gen has been having alot of issues lately. Last week I replaced the wheel bearings, lower control arm, ball joints, and tie rod ends and tonite i replaced 3 of my studs on the front passenger side hub because they rusted of while i was driving. Engine runs fine and pulls hard and the tranny is in good condition and have about 230k. Only problem the car has is RUST car came from maine and you can see it all on the rockers and a little bit on the bottom of the fenders. When I was under it yesterday its really alot worse than I thought. I've found a few that are in my price range but dont know if I should buy another car or not. Think I should get another 4th gen??

Have you gotten an estimate to fix the rust? I would say keep it if thats your only problem.

Or you can do what I did..

Return your car to stock, sell it, buy another one, put your old parts on it.

So buy a "new" 4th gen first, swap parts then sell the "old" one bone stock.

Like everyone else said. Drive it till the wheels fall off. Youll get your money's worth and have more time to think about a different car

If you really like your Max but it's too much to fix cause you wanna drive a dope ride sell it. Clean it up as best you can, get it running as best you can and sell it for as much as you can get, then take that plus what u have saved up and find a better Max with less mileage and no rust. Make sure you actually crawl under the car, I've actually brought ramps to drive up on to check the under carriage for rust/leaks. Body rot can really be a hassle and ruin your ride if not fixed right.

the only rust is on the rockers and a little bit in the rear by the exhaust but other than that its fine minus a few dings and scratches

Keep it 4th gen. I like the dek 5th gens but the vq35 5th gens feel way too fake even tho they are fast, rev matching is pain in the az and the cable shifter 6spd feels too fake. I dont like it, vq35's are great but i dont like them in the 5.5 gens.

Id say for you do this: U could buy a blown engine maxima or bad tranny max for dirt cheap and swap over ur engine and tranny. Fixes the rust problem and u could part out your current maxima and probly break even max. Auto 4th gens go for pennies.

I wouldn't do a 3.5 swap on your current car with the blown motor, I would use it as parts car or get rid of it. Rust will spread unless you remove all of it, if you repair the rockers it will most likely pop up somewhere else in a couple year. If your going to go through the hassle of a 3.5 swap, start off with a clean rust free car.

Definitely true.

Use it as a daily driver and POR15 the rust areas. Drive it into the ground and buy something else. No point in putting money into a car with high mileage and rust.
