UK-Spec Maxima a wimp?

After suddenly realilising they sell the Maxima in the UK now... I did some research on the engines they use in the 4th Gen there. Absolutley blew me away...

Not only is the 3.0 only available in auto, but it was a 0-60 of 9.6 seconds... And they also have a 2.0 4-banger available in MT at 11s+ and AT at 13s+ to 60. Why did the 3.0 5spd not get to England? Why have they forsaken us?

Thank goodness I live in the US now, and have the sit-the-heck-down and shut-the-heck-up performance of a 5spd Maxima, pulling 60 in 6.7

I timed my 0-60 with a stopwatch just for the hell of it - see if I can really get the performance they promise in the brochure... Basically stock apart from a K&N drop-in. I got 6.9 seconds - so I'm pretty close. Need to study the tq curve some more to fine-tune the shift points...

Yeah, Europe has pretty strict rules on engine size, I think it's something to do w/ taxes or pollution or something. That's why even a $40,000 Audi comes with a little 1.9L 4 (not that it's *slow* or anything, just a lotta money for a little engine)...

Anyway, I've done 0-60 runs in my '99 SE-L 5-speed, using my G-Tech Pro... never once got better than 7.3, mostly mid 7's. I prolly did 8-10 runs with JWT cone intake and without, didn't make much difference, FWIW. Running on stock 16's w/ Potenza RE730's, 50-60 Farenheit, and a stereo/amps/sub (I didn't attempt to lighten the load at all).

I saw a Max (QX) at Heathrow, it looked so plain with that dull front grill, and the grey interior, yawn. I'm glad I live in the US for many reasons now this too.

I am surprised they didn't make a desiel version for the $5 per gallon economy.
I drive the kaka out of my car, and can afford the gas too.
