rear strut problem..help

just bought tokico blue rear struts for my 96
they came with hardware
i installed them
they were good for like 2 days

note ive tried it twice

after 2 days or so they seem to pop through the strut mount
and make a knocking noise? looks as tho the struts really arent doing anything

anyone have this problem?

the first time i took it apart the bottom of the two bushings that came with it slid over the little knotch on the top of the strut

is there a washer that it didnt come with or something?

My Illuminas came with the required hardware. If yours didn't come with the washer, double check that you got everything else you should have received. Otherwise, reuse the old washer, etc.

Compare the parts you got all of the parts in the suspension writeup.

so there should be a washer underneath that bushing to keep it from sliding over the notch?

if so can i just find a washer that fits?
or do i need to call tokico for it?

there should be a washer on top under the center nut sounds like you need new strut mounts

Actually, now that I think about it, it wasn't included with my rear struts, I ordered it (among other things) from courtesyparts.com.

In the thread I linked to look at the diagrams in post #4. Part #8 for the rear or part #55248N. It's more like a cup that sits on top of the bumpstop and underneath the bushing. The cup/opening part should be facing down. There should also be another washer (this one actually resembles a washer) that goes in between the upper bushing and the upper strut nut.

Good luck with getting it fixed.

ps. you should be able to reuse the washer and cup thing from your old suspension, if you still have it.

If you can't find the cup like washer, head down to your local hardware store and get yourself a nice size washer to sit on that nub. It should be wider then the upper bushings and fit snug on the shaft on top of the nub.
