New rims, insight needed
New rims, insight needed
Ok, so my max is lowered on H&R's/Illuminas and I just added some 18x7.5 Team Dynamics, but it sits a little too high. I really like the comfort of the h&r's, but I'd really like her to sit a little lower. I'm thinking of getting some Progress springs, but not sure if it will get it low enough or be comfortable. Could I get taller tires to help eliminate some of the fender gap? Currently on 225/40. Btw I don't want coilovers as I'm certain the ride will be too rough. Your thoughts please??

What's the drop with H&R's/Illuminas?
On 18's
225/40's = 25.08" Dia.
225/45's = 25.97" Dia. (+0.89" total)
225/50's = 26.85" Dia. (+1.77" total)
Aren't stock around 26" dia.? (215/65R15 - '96?)

thanks for the positive feedback guys!
i believe they are 1.3"F-1.5"R
I think the Progress springs will make my car sit perfect. Anyone on here have these springs + 18's?

the wheels are nice, in all honesty if you want to go lower than what you already are your going to loose ride comfort no matter what. i would suggest coilovers(even tho you said no to them) because 1) you can adjust the ride height to your preference & 2) most coilovers that are offered for the 4th gen come with some kinda damper adjustment (which controls the ride comfort). but like i said, anything lower than what you're on, springs or coilovers, your ride comfort is going to get worse. so unfortunately, ride comfort for our cars is something that has to be sacrificed the lower you go on the ride height. i also wouldnt go with a taller tire either.
my stocks were 205/65/15
i'm running 225/40's on my 18's and before i bought the tires i did some reasearch and this size is the closest to stock tires in 18's. i even had the guy at discount put a 205/65/15 next to a 225/40/18 and the height is almost identical. only other difference was the width of the tire, of course...

i use to drive a GTI and it came stock with 225/45/17 and i just went with 235/45 in the back and eliminate some of the gap.

I'm one of the few people here who does not usually advocate lowering these cars, especially for a CG2. I think a higher-profile set of tires would help. Lowering would look awkward IMO: the wheel arch and the wheel are presently about concentric; lowering it would give it that "too-low" look you get when the center of the wheel arch is lower than the wheel center.
I'm running 225/40's on 18x7.5" rims as well but I'm dropped on AGX's/Eibach's.

Give it some time to settle. It'll sit a little lower than my set-up, don't worry.

I think I'm going to put some bigger tires on my rims for now and see what that does for it. If anything, it will give me a smoother ride for sure. Plus, I was thinking a stillen kit would look primo
^^^they offer probably one of the lowest "drops" out of all the springs out on the market for the maxima 4th gens. they ride a bit rough but thats what i expected, and also ride comfort is the last thing on my mind when i installed them since its common sense that ride comfort gets worse the lower you go (on maximas for that matter)...
