Check Engine light
Check Engine light
Ok so for a while now my check engine light was on. i knew what it was setting it off (knock sensor). From what ive read on the org, that is quite common. Ive ignored it for a while cuz i didnt order the part.... well i ordered it, and now that light is off
. is it still worth replacing the knock sensor or should i just wait for the light to come back on again. and to anyone that thinks it: the bulb did not burn out, i made sure of that before anything haha

The knock sensor DOES NOT set a check engine light.
What have you been reading? That info is posted everywhere on this board.
Go to the stickys up top and pull the stored error codes, then use the code reader to find out what's tripping the check engine light.

Once again, the knock sensor WILL NOT trigger the CEL. It is a ghost code. If you replaced all the other sensors and you left the old knock sensor, the code would be there but no CEL.
so . . . the CEL goes away a while after you clean the TB? What are you using to clean it? Residue from cleaner could cause a temp MAF until it 'wears off'? Have you cleaned the MAF, too? You also may have an intermittent bad connection to the MAF, causing this problem when you're working around there doing the TB ? Lotsa guesses here, but you don't give much info. When was the last time you checked your codes? As for the KS, I did the resistor 'fix' about 3 yrs ago and it's still OK. Only cost $5, cause I had to buy a pkg of resistors at Radio shack, I just use '93 ( highest octane available in the Maritimes) and don't do WOT punches.
STEP 1: FIRST READ http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...ing-forum.html
and note it says this: "If you post about your CEL coming on before you have checked for the codes, it will get locked. Please do not ask why it may have come on without the codes."
STEP 2: Go in here and do some research! http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...ere-first.html
STEP 3: USE SEARCH to figure out how to fix your problem
STEP 4: if you you have trouble just ask!
lock it up

Im using TB cleaner. When I clean it the car is off and i get in there good and scrub it with a tooth brush and getting all that "fun" carbon build up off. I start the car and give it a few sprays while opening the TB. I could be doing this wrong, lemme know if I am. And I have not cleaned the MAF. And I checked my codes a while ago. Probably gunna check them tomorrow
