Which year is the best 4th gen SE?

I've decided to buy a used Maxima SE for myself, but I need some help researching the various years.

Generally speaking, automakers add weight to a model over the years as a result of increased emissions requirements, added features, etc. So I'm leaning towards a '96 or '97 (to account for the time Nissan may have needed to work out the bugs of the first year).

Do any of you know any information I ought to consider?

Thanks in advance.

Ok really performance wise the 95s were the best, 96s are too but I heard that the 96s hve the obdII if I am crrct 97-99s were redesigned they are good safety wise/. Performance is good too but the best lightest and performance wise were the 95-96 models.

i think Nissan is high fiving each other...another person bought into their marketing scheme

BTW GXE, SE, SE-L...they were all spray painted by the same gun w/ the same base paint.
if you think the SE-L is special...by all means go for it

edit - typo

If you are going to mod then I say GXE...but I do wish I had bought an SE for 1 reason only...SUNROOF. That is a mod that I could add but am very hesitant about doing. I love sunroofs though. SE also doesn't have the BS speed limiter, but if you don't want a sunroof and your gonna mod... 97 GXE...cause you can get an ECU for it...

My nickels worth

I believe 99 models also came with Traction control, a feature offered for the 1st time on a Maxima in 99.

Hey Delio, my GXE has a sunroof
When shopping I wanted a 97-99 SE with a sunroof, but unfortunately, they were way out of my price range. So then I was just looking for a 97-99, white, blue or black with a sunroof.

I agree, SE-L is a gimmick, do you think all these little extra badges and embroideries are worth the extra $$$? How much more expensive is the SE-L compared to an SE? Like a grand or two? Buy the floormats, buy the badges and slap this stuff on if you like it so much and you have an SE-L

I think the best deal by far is a 97 SE. Great looks, I don't like the digital odometer, I like the gauges more too.. Plus you'll get it cheaper then the 98-99.

Oooooh... I get it now ... so which month produced the best 99 SE-L?

I vote July, cause that's when the weather is nice and hot and cured the paint right.

its cheaper than an SE.. it has a few fall backs from the SE.. no sunroof, no climate control, has a speed limiter..

however if you are an enthusiast and you plan to upgrade suspension, power mods, wheels, all that stuff.. the GXE is the better value because its cheaper.. so you can use the extra $3000 more the SE cost and use it towards mods..

here is my GXE..

http://sprintmax.onlineshowoff.com

i have spent alot of money on her.. but she looks nice .. custom leather too..

a lot of the sweetest and fastest cars on this forum are GXE's.. MardigrasMatt 98 GXE, sx7r 99 GXE, delio 98 GXE, me 97 GXE, synki 99 GXE, nismo2020 97 GXE, deezo 97 GXE, NYCE 98 GXE, clee's RWD GXE ...
