miss my 5spd; mod the auto?

i sold my 99 5spd because it had some bad rust issues and i couldn't find a 5spd i wanted so i settled on an auto.

its been like 3 months and i miss the hell out of my 5spd it was just so much more fun. so far i've only added a drop and rims to my auto and i don't know if its worth adding power gainers; i was thinking mevi + y pipe, now...i know it will never be as fast but those with autos was it worth it to you all?

I held out for a long time to find my 5spd bro. If you enjoy driving stick then there is NO subsititute and you are always going to itch for a clutch.

U shd have waited man

There is a how to on the org for the swap. But IMO if you are gonna swap then go to Nissan and get a NEW tranny...2500 bucks. If you gonna do it then u want it to last for the life of the car.

i know, i'm definitely not considering on a swap, in fact i hope to be in a new car by the end of the year. the maxima will stay in the family though, which is why i don't mind giving it attention and making it look good. it only has 121k miles atm too.

i'm asking whether you auto guys can appreciate the added power from the mods. the most i'd do would be mevi y and maybe catback. so we're not talking any ridiculous amount of power.

No MEVI because your low end will be gone.

I'd throw on a true CAI, 00VI, y-pipe and catback. Call it a day after that.

Agree. Ive done a catback and will be installing my CAI this week. The only trouble i have with the auto is that it likes to change gears at bad times lol

You could do mods to your car that can transfer over to a 5 speed 4th gen later, when you find another one. Suspension, exhaust, wheels, etc.
Just an option for ya.

Then get a y pipe and be done. If you'll be getting a Genesis Coupe soon, I may not even bother with the Maxima. Save the money for that.

You said the auto isn't much fun, so why dump money into it? Especially if you are looking into getting another car soon.

When i was holding out for my 5spd, i test drove an auto and um, thats a fair statement.

4spd Auto trannies are cool. Its when they got 5 or 6 spds. MAn! that must be annoying wit the tranny hunting thru gears

Transgo makes a kit for the Auto. Here is the link http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TRG-RL4F03A-HD2/

Reading this thread makes me feel bummed out. I have an opportunity to pickup an entire '96 Maxima with 60k miles with a 5speed. The car is not running but it's on another island. The guy is asking for $400 for the car. It has some electrical problem that he can't troubleshoot. If I wanted to ship that car over to where I live, it would be around $600 just for shipping, not including any towing, etc. $1000 is just not worth it.

Why waste money on that when you can spend $5 on a 5A switch and do the DR mod yourself?

A DR doesn't reprogram the shift points. The Transgo Kit is not a DR.

You get what you pay for.

I'd never buy the transgo any of my maxima's when the DR does the same thing. Me, my brother and my girls maxes all chirp tires with it disconnected.

My car never had a Transgo Kit or a DR Mod and it will spin the tires when it shifts gears, a shift kit does make the shifts firmer but also corrects alot of problems of the OEM shift points. A DR mod does not control shift points, so it only does part of what a Shift Kit is designed for.

I dont need my shift points changed so the DR works for me. When I manually shift the car I can shift at any point I want . When I first started seriously modding my car years ago I was considering buy a transgo and the main reason I didnt was because I didnt want constant hard shifting. With the DR mod I can turn it on and off when I want. Same reason I dont have it on my Z yet but that may change since I'm almost running 11's and theres no DR for it.

Do not use it when your not going WOT. I had a friend with a 5th gen that had to replace his tranny because he left it disconnected for months.

QFT entirely. What's in red is my main point.

I say Mod it. Its not fun because your used to the clutch is all. I have an auto Maxima, pretty stock for now, just a Short Ram intake, and it's fun to me.
Btw, all of you who are saying nah just cause it shifts weird. Im not sure if you've noticed, but you have the option of putting your car into 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th just like a stick.
