Looking for some new headlight bulbs. Not really wanting to go HID, but if I'm going to spend $50 on bulbs I may as well get some hid lights and relay kits.

Anyone like silverstars? Or have anything else? Pics/reviews etc.

I put Silverstars in my GF's Eclipse. I/She noticed an improvement from the standard halogen. If I wasn't plannin on a HID swap on my car it's what I'd use.

Silverstars suck in the rain.

Sylvania XtraVisions with the 9007 mod are probably your best bet.

Any chance you can go to 9006? I have a set of silverstars sitting around.
I'll have to look up the 9007 mod, never heard of it.


EDIT: A quick search tells me the 9007 isn't worth it.

You can find them used for like $300

I had silverstars and they blew every few months

Maybe down the line I'll look into retro but not now, too much money.
Silverstars are around $25 on ebay so not too bad.

There are 2 kinds of Silverstars, one is ultra or some crap which are more money. They are whiter (rear blueish) and brighter. Too bad the blueish tint does not help in the rain. I find Xtravisions hard to beat for what they are. They may not look cool, but looking cool does not get you home in a storm.

9006 is a single filament light with a completely different plug.

I have the 9007 Mod with standard Philips bulbs and the wires swapped in the plug. Difference is marginal, but slightly better. Xtravision is next on my list.

Not everyone can drop $300 for retros. If i was single with no kids and living in moms basement maybe. Not picking on you tigersharkdude, I just hear that alot on many topics. We all do what we can afford, some can afford more.

I had Silverstars in my 96 Sierra, and they do burn out prematurely. I would steer clear of them.

Come on guys, these days you can easily do a retro yourself for less than $300.

OP if you don't even want to spend that much just get a DDM HID kit and call it a day.

R34's with $15 eBay blue 4 bulbs. Two were 9005 and other two 9006.

Cefiro one piece headlights with h4 harnesses spliced in and silverstar bulbs. MUCH better than stock.

I've got 9004 Xtravisions in mine and they're pretty nice. Quite white output, and they light up the road better. The xtras actually put out more lumens than do the Silverstars; people want Silverstars for the bluish tint, but the Xtravisions actually give you extra vision comparatively, they're cheaper, and they don't blow out after nine months.

Silverstars are a waste of money. Buy the Xtravisions: longer lasting, brighter, better light.

Ever try splicing in new harnesses for the r34s? My cefiros were a complete joke with the standard 9004, with H4 they are perfect.

Ya, my cefiros with 9004 put light EVERYWHERE but ON the road. Someone lookin to go cheap on r34s might try a different bulb style.

Anyone remember those headlight bulbs that output just as much as HID lights and they are just regular bulbs without ignitors and they looked a little goofy.

i run 30000k deep blue hids in 4th gen an it light the road up nice cheaper than getting the 9007 mod an then bulbs just get a real 9004 hid kit not the fake bulbs bull. one with ballasts an bulbs

I highly doubt that. 30,000K = all that blue and no actual lumens to light up the road.

For the stock 9004 consider using a relay harness. No point in getting high lumen bulbs if it's not getting enough power to them.

I'm using one with Osram Hyper bulbs in OEM Cefiro housings and I doubt you could get any better with halogen paired with the great cutoff of the OEM assemblies, but this is on the I30.

More people are for the 9007 then against. I personally ran the 9007 setup and found it to be much better then the 9004.
When I was using the 9004 I went through just about every bulb out there, PIAA's, SilverStars, Cool Blues, Nokya Artic Whites, etc. and was never happy wit hthe 9004.
When I went with the 9007 mod I ran some MTECs and liked that setup the best, before my retro of course.

I actually ordered some 30k HID bulbs by mistake thinking they were 3k and the output is GARBAGE. Nothing but blue and no type of visibility at all. I dont see how anyone can drive with those pieces of crap.

I may just get an hid kit but can't decide between 5000k and 6000k. I don't want too much blue and I haven't had a pair in a long time. I only had 6000k before. Then later down the line I will maybe retro.

Any bulb with a blue or color tint on it will give you dimished light output.

Sylvania Xtravisions are hands down the best 9004 bulb on the market.

Putting any other type of bulb in a 9004 set up will give you poor light focus.
