P1706 - PNP switch

Hello,

After 5spd swap I'm showing P1706 code. Back up lights are working, car starts after pressing clutch pedal. Am I missing something?

Please help.

The reason your having this light on is because you just changed out from an AUTO to a MANU and you have the ParkNeutralSwitch. I believe your gonna have to disconect that switch that was near the tranny pan with the gear selector cable was.

The P/N switch on the 5mt cars actually is a plastic piece that has a sensor in it, it has a large black cap (probably about 20mm) and if you remove it, you will drain your tranny of gear oil. IIRC it is held on by two small 10mm (could be wrong) bolts/screws.

Chances are that its cracked, or the actual sensor part on the switch is faulty. Mine has been acting up since I did my 2nd clutch job and I have just been lazy and haven't felt like draining the fresh synthetic oil I put in.

And also, check to see if your reverse lights work...id be willing to put money on it that they don't (as this sensor controls them).
