This morning, I noticed my front caliper dangling against the inside of my wheel. Upon inspection, I noticed that one of the two bolts that holds the caliper in place had backed out: http://www.courtesyparts.com/41138h-...-p-133877.html. My local dealers don't have the bolt in stock, so I hope to get it at a local hardware store. Does anyone know the specs for this thing, i.e., whether it's an M6 or M8, the thread pitch, and length?

Hey Tim....not to state the obvious, but why not take the other bolt out and take it with you to the hardware store, you can use a pitch finder and the measure it to see how long it needs to be.

 

that was my fall back plan...

it'll be dark by the time I leave work, and the car's in a snowcovered public parking lot where it's about 10 deg below freezing (25 below with the wind chill). i also don't have my tools with me. so i'd have to wait until tomorrow to take out the second bolt, which would set me back a day. otherwise, using the second bolt as reference would work well.

Thanks a lot! You seem to always come to the rescue when I'm having brake issues. (Like when my rear caliper was smoking on Rt. 29.)

I wimped out on leaving my car in the parking lot overnight -- in part because, just a month ago in that lot, it was broken into in broad day light. (I was able to limp the car home by shoving the caliper in place as best I could, and relying primarily on engine and e-braking.) Now that I have the car at home, I'll use your first suggestion to figure out the bolt specs -- so don't worry about taking the measurements tonight. Thanks for helping out again.
