Transmission problems?

My friends 4th gen with only 100k seems to be acting up. Revs sporatically jumoing all over the place, and when coming to a stop at a redlight the car dies. One shop said it was the transmission that needed replacement. Is this accurate? Car shifts smooth, has low miles, and has never been abused.

Any imput would be greatly appreciated

Wow, The fail is strong with them. Its probably your Idle Air Control Valve.

Thats about a 20 Min job for a noobie.

Seach for instructions on how to do it.

Yeah this sounds like a vacuum problem. unless the throw out bearing is going bad and the clutch engages on its own but thats unheard off.
