Low power until 3k rpm and then it takes off.. What's going on?????

98 5 spd.. As the title states.. There seems to be low throttle response until the tach hits 3k rpm.. And then it will take off like a rocket. No CEL. And it's not a misfire I don't think.. I know what that feels like. And after 3k it is super smooth.. I just did my y pipe a few weeks back and the mechanic said one of my o2 sensors could stand to be replaced. I have new plugs, new coils, k&n air filter, and I change the oil with mobil 1 synthetic. What could possibly be the problem??

I'm getting this issues as well. I do have a new ks and plugs so I'm looking at the MAF and TB and see what happens. I'm also getting a heavy stumble here and there when the engine is hot. Not constant though. I also wonder if the stumble I get might have to do with a coil going bad but I'm not throwing codes for anything of the sort.

its a fuel efficiency thing... the ecu is programmed to do that. all max's do that. yours may be worse if your sensors are bad or dirty, but we all have it... not many people on normal driving go about 3k so its where they have cut fuel or timing to be more efficient...

if im wrong, someone correct me please...

ok well i still havent gotten around to the cleaning and everything because of the weather.. however i do have a bad o2 sensor.. i will be replacing both of those tomorrow. aackshun i see your graph but in my case its not just a simple seem in drop in power as much as a hesitation.. its almost as if its not getting fuel or something.. but like i said i do have a bad o2 sensor, but would that cause that big of an issue????

Aackshun,

To digress, just for a bit, why is the gas tank cover in your sig on the right hand side of your Max? Is that possible? Or am I seeing things?

lol, hes tryen to be JDM yo! its just a mirror image...

and maxxxdout, you may be feeling it more than the rest of us because your ecu may be adjusting even more because the o2 sensor but we all feel the same hesitation. I can be WOT on a 2nd gear low rpm pull and i wont start moving until the noted 3k-3.5k rpm mark.

if youve got the money to toss around you could always get a tuner, be it a jwt ecu, emange ultimate, or one of the AFC tuners and adjust to your MPG Degrading pleasure! I know I will be soon! lol

EDIT!: just noticed your other thread you posted in again today... you should have already known that this hesitation was created by the ecu! lol the other guys said it too! but i reiterated it for ya! lol gotta get a tuner!

Dammit, you caught me, damn near 8 months later, I thought I could get away with this sig forever , I'm about to change it as soon as the 6th gen brakes go on anyways.

JDM Clutch = JDM car y0

O2 sensors have NOTHING to do with how the car runs.... It's purely emissions stuff. If I had hesitation, I would do the Maf, and clean the injectors some how, after changing the fuel filter, then check the plugs. If I still have hesitation, then it is more serious, like Coils, Cam/Crank Sensors, etc.

yea i have new plugs new coils and new cam and crank sensors.. all changed within the last 3 months.. im on top of my maintenance.. thats why im a little confused.... but my boost sensor/map i think needs to be replaced because the tube part cracked and i just superglued it back.. but im not getting a code for it.. soooooo i dunno... and the o2 sensors were changed this morning..

i still have yet to clean the iacv but i did seafoam it about 3 weeks ago...

I see that was done on an 00vi'ed engine. =)

Also, re-set your ECU after changing all the sensors to speed it re-learning.

I'm not VI'd, and I will probably never put anything variable on my car.

That's only like half of my dyno (really 3/4s, I just wanted to emphasize VTAK kicking in @ 3k)
