seeing how often they are stolen these day,does anyone have any good ideas on making them harder to steal?

1 Build a quick disconnect shifter.
2 MoMo wheel with quick disconnect.
3 FP kill switch.
4 Tap into the clutch pedal switch and install a starter kill.
5 Wreck your front end and repair with duct tape.
6 Steel wheels with no covers.
7 Paint pink with "SUPER GAY" vinyl deals.
8 Electric exhaust diverter into the cabin.
9 Air bags so it sits on the ground and requires a seperate key to activate
the system.
10 Trunk Monkey.

 

I love coming up with some crazy ideas that seems to work on paper, but have no idea about its use outside in real life.

But here we go!

1. Razor blades under door handles, except in the one spot that only you will know.

2. Wheel locks, like those kinds they put on your car if you don't pay a parking meter. Except you can remove them.

3. A removable steering wheel, or a steering wheel lock/jam thingy like a previous suggestion.

4. You can purchase steel cables that is difficult to cut, that people use to chain up bicycles with loops on both ends for a lock, and then wrap it around the steering wheel, gear shifter, and parking brake lever and possibly make it go across the drivers area somehow so you cannot get inside the drivers seat, and then after it is tight you put on a strong padlock or something that cannot be cut. But I think this idea is better for when you are leaving your car somewhere for a really long time rather than a daily remove and re-do type of thing.

5. You can wire a remote switch to the shift inhibitor thing if you are a auto and make it so you cannot shift the car from P to D or any gear unless the switch is closed.

6. Remove your fuel pump fuse each time you leave the car.

7. I also wonder if you can use the steering wheel locks and jam it between the seat and make it go across the floor so you cannot get your foot to the gas or brakes unless you remove it..

if you have power seats .. move the drivers seat all the way back and disconnect it from the power connector!!


wont exactly disable it but it should make it a pain in the **** to drive!!

 

I had a sundance the i put a starter switch in, still need the key to turn on the power but i had to flick the switch to make it start. It was not a kill switch but it was hidden. Now days i hear they just pushing cars away

 

a guy on here told me how to rig up a system where you wire up a switch you can hide somewhere, and unless you flick that switch first you cant start the car. if you want i can dig in my old PM's too see if i can find where he told me how to do it

Figured I'd say more about it outside the postings on stealing a Maxima.

Yes, a push button start is as simple as bypassing the power wire which runs to the starter solenoid. Typically when you turn the key to start, a 12v signal goes to the solenoid and essentiall acts as a relay telling the starter to turn (as you know, the starter has a direct wire from the battery which it pulls it's power from....NOT the 12v from the solenoid).

So, AutoZone and Advance have push button start kits for about $20-30 and you simply install it somewhere (I used the 12v/cigarette lighter port in my 3rd gen Maxima for mine). The kit simply comes with a button, wires, and relay. The button essentually makes a ground when pushed and triggers the relay to turn switch on, allowing a 12 volt signal (which you'll have to find) to travel to the starter solenoid. You just unplug the solenoid connector at the starter and run a line from the relay off the push start kit.

Yes, you still need the key becuase it turns your power on to your accessories, fuel pump, ignition coils, etc.

Hope that helps. BTW, you can get nicer kits off line, some are lighted, but that attracts too much attention.

 

OFT... this is how VIPMaxima's car was stolen, at least it is the only way we can presume. Its amazing how if you know someone with a truck and a rig, they can nab your car literally if you had your back turned for 15 seconds...

I am sure this one will be simple but, you will have to leave the radio and center console unit unbolted becuase the ECU and TCM that's under there can get disconnect or you just can by those things that lockup the wheel from going anywhere.

 

Yuuup, where i live police setup a dummy cam to watch how thieves steal car less then 30sec. it was all on the news

When im in a bad area i always take out the FP fuse.

 

Anyone have experience with fuel pump relay switchez? I'm intrigued by the simplicity.

 

I haven't done it yet but I plan to do with the fuel pump at least. I know a buddy of mine did it though and just tapped into one of the wires (I forget the color off the top of my head) and put a 20A switch IIRC inline with that wire and he just has to flip the switch to disable the fuel pump. Pretty simple and cheap too.

you shouldn't need so beefy a switch if you can just tap into the line for the relay

Yeah i will be doing it soon i think.. someone on the org told me a 20A switch and 16 gauge wire should do just fine! I was also told to solder the connections and use proper insulation!

I havent researched it yet but it sounds straight forward! The Fuel pump line to tap is black and yellow i believe but dont quote me on that! Im gonna take a look when my new leather seats come in..

But that wire color does sound pretty familiar I think you're right. Either way, my buddy is gonna chime in sometime and will clarify everything.

Anything produced period can be bypassed. That shouldnt stop you from putting up some barriers tho lol. If a thief really wants the car, they will get it, but if we make it harder for them, they may decide its not worth it and move on.

 

Hey guys, Im the one that did the fuel pump switch.

When you remove your back seat there is a bundle of wires leading to the middle seat.
Slice the bundle and find a black wire with yellow stripes.
Cut that and solder some 16 gauge wire (i think is what I used) to a 20A switch and just run it somewhere. I ran it under the carpets and somewhere near my center console (wont tell exactly where lol)

Any other questions just yell for me.

Like an idiot i forgot to look at the bundle of wires when i put in my leather seats in today.. I got a problem with the front seats not moving forward and back but when i finish dealing with that im gonna do this mod.

What kinda switch you use? Rocker style or button like?

Yessir.

I used a rocker switch, easier to hit. If you use your imagination you can hide it many places. Ive had people sit in my front seat and actually had them search for the switch and never found it, yet its only 8 inches from the seat.

Be sure to run all the wires under the carpet too. I had to exacto a few holes in the carpet but it was worth the clean install.

I posted in another thread about theft and a kill switch was the only thing that saved my max when my alarm malfunctioned. I heard them cranking it up but it didn't start so they took off, I was headed out the door with the S&W so it's a good thing they took off. An alarm only means nothing you need another layer of security incase your alarm malfunctions or they disable the siren which they can do in about 5 seconds. In the middle of the night you will probably not hear it in that short duration.
