Weird Request

So I told my boss that my car wouldn't start in order to get the day off, I've tried searching for legit reasons for Maxima's to not start that would take an all-day repair and be on the costly side. I know he'll be looking for a specific reason. If anyone could help me out on this that'd be great. Thanks.

Man you must be young. I have too much pride to lie about why I can't make it to work. Next time say something vague like I have a family emergency and I am required to help.

Is he going to ask for a mechanic receipt?

Tell him you ran out of blinker fluid or starter fluid. Works for me every time.

Hell yea! my car is almost always out of starter fluid on Monday mornings! It just burns right out. Terrible terrible inconvenience it is, and unfortunately one that has never been recalled!

I feel your pain, I usually keep an extra bottle or two in my trunk just in case.

Not as long as I make it sound legit.

Trust me, you'll hate working for this company more than working for me.

keep it simple... your starter went bad. none of the stores in the area had one in stock, so you had to wait until the next morning to get one.

and even if stores did have them, you tried to jump start your car, it didnt work, tried to bang the starter with a mallet, didnt work, then you had to find a ride but couldnt find one. easy.

Tell him your sense of moral uprightness had seized, so you just took it out. But it took all day.

Tell him you accidentally filled your car with diesel and had to be towed to a mechanic to get drained out and flushed.

And that you ran out of money paying the tow truck and the mechanic and couldn't fill your car up so you had to wait for your mom/dad/wife/sister to come and give you some gasoline.

I have to agree with asand1. Either your attendance is a chronic problem or you are in an entry level position. Either way, your management seems to feel that you need constant supervision and verification.

Based on your post, they are correct.

I'm glad you're not on my team. Good luck.

A buddy of mine was running late for work once and he was planning on saying that his car didn't start but then when he actually got down to his car...IT DIDN'T START. His battery went bad and it was a winter morning, kinda funny how things work out.

I probably wouldn't make up car excuses either cause Karma's a b@#%h.
BUT I would say that the starter story is the best one out of all of these.

Not giving you a hard time, but I wouldn't want your job! I work in retail, and could call and say something like "I just don't feel up to coming in," and the GM would say "I understand, we all have those days. Thanks for calling!" People have done it, and while it won't fly if you're one who's out a lot, if you have fantastic attendance and call several hours in advance (and not on inventory day or when a corporate visit is expected!) it's no problem.

Of course, I've only called out once in three years.
