Duplicate o2 code ?

I changed my right bank o2 sensor today, (right side meaning facing engine from from driver side) which was kicking out a 0503 code. A few hours later I am getting 0901, which by the code documents I have is also the right bank. Why are there 2 codes for the same problem, any suggestions?

(On my chart 0303 is the left side or rad side 02, no issues there)

0503=Front Right Heated O2 sensor
0901=Front Right Htd 02 sensor heater

Yes, they are for the same sensor, but they are not the same problem. 0901 indicates a bad heating element in your new sensor, a bad connection, or a break in your harness. Your original 0503 indicated a faulty sensor. Sensor does not=heater. While they are both in the same body, they are separate circuits. clean and grease the connector. Look under the body for chafed wires. Was it a universal crimp-on sensor?

Good call. It is a universal that may have got twisted too much in the install. I just twisted the wires together with some electric tape and then snugged them all up. No butt connectors or solder. Tough to get at with the little jack I have. Thanks for the heads up. The sensor has red black and Grey, i was told black was signal, the other didn't matter. What do you mean "clean and GREASE" the connector. You mean the tri connector up top?

Use but connectors after the sensor is installed, or remove the harness from up top and assemble correctly with butt connectors. I like the non insulated followed by dielectric grease and heat shrink tubing.

Yes dielectric grease IF you you separate it anyway. Its probably not necessary, but something I like to do.

Here is a wiring diagram for right front sensor heater. You'll have to look at the car side of the "tri" connector and trace the wires down to your connection. Your new sensor should have come with a diagram with a color code for the red/black/grey. Double check your connections and get some butt connectors on there ASAP.
