00vi VIAS Control Solenoid Valve Current

Does anyone know how much current the VIAS Solenoid take?

I know that the voltage is 12V, but I'm also interested in the current.

I have a RPM switch that in the specs says that it can't take any more then 3Amps - don't really want to blow a switch by drawing too much current across it.

Also, the 2001 FSM has no information on the current.

The FSM also gives no value of resistance for the solenoid, which is odd because that would be useful troubleshooting information. If you really want to know how much current that solenoid draws, first measure the resistance of the solenoid. Then take the car's voltage, 14 (remember, the output of the alternator is higher than the battery voltage), and divide it by the measured resistance. The result would be current in amps. So if the solenoid had a resistance of 14 ohms, the current would be:

14 Volts/14 Ohms = 1 Amp.

I suspect that the current requirements of the solenoid are well below what the rpm switch is capable of supplying. Especially considering Nissan uses the ECM directly to control the VIAS solenoid, and does not use a relay as they would if the solenoid was high power.

You should have no problem activating the solenoid with that RPM switch.

Right, somehow I forgot about high school physics.
=P Well, not to find my ohm meter.
