Selling Your Maxima

The big question is, what is your price?

I've become too attached to this car, and had to get a reality check, I've recently totaled up the total amount of mods/repairs I've done and it shocked me a little bit, and today someone literally walked up to my house and said that they want my car. I gave him a number (won't be discussed yet) that's high just because of my personal attachment to this car, and he's actually considering it, thing is, if he comes up with the money, do I have the ability to actually let it go?

And that's the point of this thread... What will it take for you to give up your 4th gen? Post it up!

In all seriousness, that's a really tough question for me. The number that comes to mind right off the top of my head is 20k.

I'm not saying it's worth 20k, but that's what it would take for me to let it go. I have way too much blood, sweat, tears, time, and money invested in this car.

You sir a an exception haha, Your car has to be the fastest 4th gen, with all the mods youve done I'm sure the car is worth at least 15k

I had a 1995 nissan maxima GXE, with 171,000 miles on it. It was involved in one accident where the rear left passenger door was smashed and resulted in frame damage. then the car got broken into and they took my alpine stereo, and in the process destroyed the dashboard. With that, they broke the handle on the passenger door and made it really hard to get the A/C **** to turn. I was holding it together with rubber bands.

Anyway, I was able to sell it on Craigslist for $1050. I loved that car when it was nice and pretty, but then because of the damage, then the break in, I cant say I really miss it much now.

I've had many offers especially when they seen the condition my car is in with the mileage to go with it...but since its my first car, I told them I am taking it to the grave so no amount of money would make me sell it...310K original and counting..

My car is far from the fastest (not even sure just how fast it is...), but thank you kindly for the compliment.

Damn I was in a very similar situation! Mine was hit and run, then while it was at the shop, someone broke in! It's now totaled.

But since I wanted a manual (mine was automatic), I woulda sold mine for around 10k with all the mods

I go through this delima a lot as I'm wanting to get a G or a M, but just can't bring myself to trading in the I. Spent too many sleepless night outside working on this baby to let her go....

how in the world did you get it for 600, with no damage? did you have to do a lot of things to get it to run?

aackshun you better not even do it..
i have gotten offers on my car and ive turned em down and dont have nearly as much done to it as some of you guys i.e. The wizard(really nice car btw). But i know for me it would have to be upwards of 8k for me with all the money and aggravation that has been invested into it. And thats my sensible number...

I feel the same way!

My car has been there with me during my lowest times and during my highest times. Its like an old pet, I love it and its like a friend thats always there even though sometimes you don't realize it. It has gotten sick several times but somehow still survived, and is there when you need it. And since its old you know in your mind that it could die at any time but you still love it anyway.

Or its like a great porno that you downloaded a loooonnng time ago, even though you've seen every thing that you need to see, and used it for all its worth. You still can't delete it and replace it with the new *** invaders 3 because you feel an odd attachment to it.

Not the most elegant way of putting it but it gets the point across...

It was 'Donated' to me for 175$. With 178,000 Miles on it, thought to be a clunker. Needed a Serious Cleaning, and here at 370,000 Miles shes still kicking and is daily abused.

Right now.. I would'nt get a dime out of her, shes getting a bit of a rust issue on the quarter panels, the rad support is in need of repair and the suspension is in need of a serious overhaul. The tranny seems to shift a bit harshly, but when im under 3K she does just fine. The interior needs new leather and some of the door panels are starting to wear down. Actually as i write.. I'm realizing everything else of whats wrong is cosmetic...

There are tons of other problems, but sadly it still starts every time.. I don't know what in the hell i have to do to kill this car. Hell, I don't even have a SES or CEL... and Yes the Bulbs work.

I had my previous 4th gen for 10+ years but it was an auto but i loved it .. I recently sold it fo 3400 with 155k on it bone stock!! The whole time i wanted a stick and i finally got a 5spd and im starting to mod it.. Its like i fell in love all over again! My new 4th gen has 88k on it right now!! It feels like a extension of my old max that i went through so much with!

To take that from me would be .. well ... just wrong! But if i had to put a number on it.. 7k.

But i would be dragging my feat as i clung to the spoiler as you drove off!!!

and noooooooooooooo dont do it aackshun!!!

When I was MOTM, I had someone here PM me about my car and they offered $8000 for it as it stood at the time. Mind you this was nearly $3,000 above blue book and was more than what I originally paid for the car.

I feel exactly how you do aackshun, I have a huge personal attachment to the car. It was paid in full, when I was 16 years old, with my own hard earned cash from doing landscaping since age 12. I love my car.

I think that the only way I would be happy selling it is if I were able to get an equally as fun/well balanced car as my 4th gen has been.

I don't know about where you live, but here on the west coast cars are getting a premium. Used cars are not as abundant as they were 3 years ago when the economy was better, people are holding on to their cars. We just went thru the whole ordeal of trying to buy a used car and selling my wife's 2008 Impreza.
Buying a used car was an ordeal, we couldn't find the color we wanted easily with the right miles or condition. No one is selling. When we did find a nice car, sellers wouldn't budge. We eventually ended up getting a car from a dealer.

When we went to sell her Impreza, people went nuts. We were asking $2500 over book and that didn't stop anybody. My email inbox was blowing up with serious people, and my phone rang non-stop. Why? Because she had a silver Premium trim wagon with black interior in PERFECT condition. It's a unique color since most Impreza's don't have black interior, but that's what everybody wanted.
When you have what others want, you can get what you want.

I'd say your Maxima is worth a lot and the right person will come around and see the value in it. Don't worry if market value on your car is $3-4K. Your car will appeal to someone who will appreciate it and see the value in it. And that person will probably take good care of your baby too since you didn't cluck it to the average fool.

I'd bet my 1997 SE 3.5 swap is worth $6500-$7500 to the right person. Way above market value....

Just bought a 2008 skyline coupe. It fulfilled a dream I have had since 14.
I have 2 Zcars (looking to buy a third).
I was forced to sell my 78Z before mob. I have felt horribly about it ever since
I would never sell my max; ever! You can not buy my car nor my wife (if I had one).

To me, cars are like girlfriends. They have personality, a uniqueness about them, and hold a special/emotional significance in my life. Laugh all you want... I have loved and cared for my Maxima since I bought it at 17. My max has never left me, cheated on me, cursed me, or given less than its best. To attribute emotional value is to be human. Let me alone to live my fantasy; to revel in my humanity.

I'd only be able to sell mine if it wasn't in good mechanical condition like I did with my '96 CG2 GLE. My father really took poor care of it and I got it for free so I didn't care. I tried to fix the problems that I knew of to the best of my ability but as the car got older (239K+ miles) it was just getting unmanageable and I couldn't maintain the car any longer.

To my knowledge it had a bad water pump, thermostat, headgasket, there was a misfire (I believe it was a shot coilpack cause the spark plugs were fresh), bad outer tie rods, the rear passenger quarter panel was rusting to **** and there was a water leak above the driver seat from the a-pillar (don't ask me why, I couldn't figure it out). I bought my new DD, put the mods from the old DD onto the new one (left the Warpspeed y-pipe and Stillen muffler on) and sold the old one for $500 cash. To this day I miss it but it had to go.

My car was hit a few years back and the insurance company wanted to total it. Luckily I keep all the reciepts for my car and at that time the mods totalled over 11k, not including the value of the car so they decided to simply repair it.
However I know I would never get what Ive put into this car if I tried to sell it. If it were for sale, Id like to get 15-12k for it as it sits, but I dont think thats a reality.

i have put so much work into my 4th gen, 97 GLE with 84k miles, it would take 4,500 for me to give it up, and i bought it for 1,900. good question. its easy to get attached to a car, especially this one.
