Intermittent cruise control
Intermittent cruise control
Hey guys, I was wondering if somebody with knowledge on the subject could help me out with this problem. I HAVE searched and have come to some possible problem solvers but it doesn't seem that anybody else has had this problem. My cruise control works intermittently and it's been that way for several years now. I think it might be the speed sensor or something with the vacuum. (Manual 5-speed)
This is where I explain the symptoms. I do 90% highway driving between home and school (225 miles away) and it happens on a regular basis.
1. Once into 5th with the cruise control switch on, it typically takes anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes to actually engage the damn thing.
2. With the CC engaged, if I take out the clutch or change gears, I typically have to go through step 1 but it usually doesn't take as long.
3. If I disengage or step on the brakes, I can go right back into the CC without any problem. It's just when you come out of the engaged gear or disengage the clutch that I have problems reengaging the CC.
In advance, I would like to say thanks and I would appreciate anyone chirping in with any ideas.

Because you say you only have problem when you push the clutch pedal in, I would look at the ASCD clutch switch. This switch is on the clutch pedal bracket and when the clutch pedal is all the way up, it closes the circuit. When you push the clutch pedal down, the switch brakes the circuit, and lets the ASCD control unit know to turn off the cruise control.
These switches have threaded bodies that allow them to be adjusted. Maybe it just needs adjustment. Take a look at the clutch pedal bracket and check it out. Do not confuse the clutch ASCD cancel switch with the clutch interlock switch. The clutch interlock switch is activated when the pedal is all the way down. The clutch ASCD cancel switch is activated when the pedal is all the way up. It should be obvious which is which when you look at the clutch pedal bracket.

The clutch pedal bracket is the bracket that the clutch pedal mounts to. With your foot on the clutch pedal, it would be about 4-6 inches above your shoe. Just look down by the pedals.
I second the answer above. There is a pretty good diagram in the "CL" section of the FSM for my 97. I assume the 95 FSM would have the same.
