fuel gauge sending unit

sup org,

ok so my low fuel light no longer works. sooo... when i replaced my gauge lights with leds i decided to pull the bulb and check continuity and the bulb apears to be working properly. i have come to the conclusion that it is the fuel gauge sending unit. my question to you fine folks is...

220,000 miles.
1) im having trouble locating this part and it is not included with the pump but my pump is fine. where can i find one?

2) if i pull the pump at my mileage will it take a poo-poo?

any help would be appreciated

THANKS ORG!

the part name & number is: Sender Unit-Fuel Gauge # 25060-4L700.
(reference: item # 8 @ http://nissan4u.com/parts/maxima/us_...llustration_1/ )
$134.55 at Courtesy Nissan
$120.91 at http://www.nissanpartszone.com/

I would suggest that you replace the rubber o-ring seal for the fuel pump whether you replace the sender unit or not.

The sender unit has a variable resistor that runs the needle on the gauge and a switch to turn the low fuel light on.

why would the pump go bad??? just removing and putting it back should'nt change anything. i have the same mileage on my 95 and the same problem, if the fuel pumps working, who cares about the light. save your money man....

The pump shouldn't fail just because you remove it. Handle it gently, don't drop it or throw it.

BTW, don't forget to release the fuel pressure before you disconnect the hoses.

If your SES light is missing would you know if your secondary o2 is failing? Causing you to fail emissions.

I've seen all kinds of crazy things happen just by removing one simple part and it's old that like taking an 85 year old lady for a hike

what??? thats crap, i've removed oem $hit that was 14 years old and put it back on and no issues. sensors, ac compressor, entire dash like 6 times. if you know what your doing, it should'nt be a problem. thats what the fsm is for. stuff will break, but something like that??? i doubt it.
