Finished my custom ram-air intake today.
Finished my custom ram-air intake today.
I have a PR CAI and I attached a 3" elbow to the end and continued it to the foglight hole. I put one of those Ractive air filters with the heat shield on the end of the elbow. My foglight holes have that gutter mesh stuff on them so the air should flow right through the mesh and into the filter and into my engine. My thoughts were that the heat shield part would help to direct the air into the intake better and at high speeds, help to "push" the air into the motor. Guess we'll see tonight on the highway on the way home.

Cheers,

you will end up loosing alot of power if it rains, plus it could do some damage to you engine. (still hard for rain to get up there anyway) I tried something like the set up you have, it was ok, not much of a gain for me. The bypass will not help you when it rains only if the filter is submerged in water, basically going through about 8-10 inches deep water.

dude, heatshield is not helping you in any way, it's blocking the flow of air into the filter, take that damn thing off

I'm still working on the rain issue.
I think I'll make a cover for the foglight hole or something. I need to do that quiick before I get stuck in the rain. It'll suck rain like a vacuum cleaner. I still have the plastic piece that I cut out of the bumper so maybe I can use that somehow.
On the way home last night, I got stuck behind two semi's. As soon as one got in front of the other, I punched it and from the rear of his trailer until I got in front of him, I went from 80 to 110. The tracks closed so I only have my butt dyno, but it pulled hard!
At highway speeds, it cruises along effortlessly. Use to be at highspeeds, it would pick up speed very quick, but noow it hardly has to try. Downsides to this are: I don't hear the cool CAI whistle and the rain problem but other than that I am extremely happy with it.
The heat shield is helping to direct air into the filter. I have the hole on the heatshield pointed right at the foglight hole. Without the heatshield on there, I would lose a lot of air around the filter. If you think about it, it's helping air into the filter. It almost acts like a scoop.
I'll try to get some pictures of the setup posted sometime.
