BRAKE LINES
BRAKE LINES
I have to get the brake lines done on the 97 i just picked up. Quoted 300.
Any of you ever have to get these done and is that the normal price? I had to do them on my 95 for 300 as well last year. But now...300 is a bit steep for me. Not worth spending that on the car. Is there a cheaper way? Or if someone can get the part cost for cheaper I'm all ears... or eyes in this case.
One has some seepage. Hasnt gone yet though. Is there something I can coat them with maybe? To protect them longer and stop the seepage?
Thanks

If there leaking, they need to be replaced. PERIOD!
Where are you getting the quote from, mechanic?
Labor ain't cheap. The parts can't be expensive, but the job is a little time consuming.
A full system bleed is required as well.

The metal ones running along.
Quote was from Mechanic.
It sucks. I bought the car for 400. I already have to do the EGR valve/possibly knock sensor too. o2 sensor. all new rotors and pads. technically a welding job on the pipe leading to the muffler and a fender. I mean i knew I would've had to do some things for a car priced that low. But, wasnt thinking the brake lines. All the other stuff hes doing for 250 labour combined.

Damn son dont know what to tell u. Gonna need to get those done ASAP. 300 aint bad. 200 wd sound a whole lot better ya kno.
Make sure the lines near the tires are good too. U dont want to do the metal lines jus to find the lines near the calipers are corroded and bad too.

brakes
I just did my rear lines. The previous owner did not install the stillen rear sway bar bolts correctly-the bolt ends almost chewed through the rear brake lines. The new rubber lines were $25 each at Carquest here in FL. Figure four($110)? of those plus a bottle of brake fluid$8. Sounds like the usual: cost = parts x 2.2(standard markup) = the price of the job. It is a messy project but fairly easy with the right tools(big pliers, small/medium metric wrenches) - but once you get a hang of the fittings and bleeding the brakes it's a breeze. Oh and have a good friend who doesnt mind stomping the brake pedal for 10-15min too. DIY!
There is a bunch of part outs going on you may be able to get most of them parts for pretty cheap on here. Like max96 pretty much said at the end there, doing it yourself is always the cheapest route. I've personally never had to do brake line but man I just took out that mess of clutch line in there and ran a ss line and it really didn't take that long. I only take my car to the shop to get tires put on.
