Y pipe considerations

I'm planning in installing a y pipe (down pipe) on my 99 Max.
I have some questions about Y pipes:
How loud would the car get if changing only the Y pipe? ( I have the 2001 variable exhaust muffler installed.
Would I lose low end power ( my max is auto)?
Should I have a problem with the emissions?
Does the gas mileage vary, would it get worse?
which y pipe would be the best?
and last, how many HP would I get?

Actually not too bad. At wide open throttle you will hear it more but it is reasonable. I have the warpspeed pderformance version and love the sound.

Would I lose low end power ( my max is auto)?
I have a 5 speed maybe someone else can answer better.

Should I have a problem with the emissions?
Drive it around for a bit before (like 10 minutes or so) and you will have no problem.

Does the gas mileage vary, would it get worse?
Better actually. It allows better airflow making the mpg go up slightly. But alot of people think it goes down because when they first get it they are driving harder and stuff testing it out.

which y pipe would be the best?
Like I said I love my warpspeed.

and last, how many HP would I get?
Roughly around 15+ HP.

technically its illegal to remove your two pre-cats.. but its been proven that if you warm the car up first... you should eek by..

I just had a Cattman SS Ypipe installed and the noise increase is hardly noticeable. In fact, all you hear is an increase in idle noise (turns from quiet smooth to a slightly less refined sound, but not too bad). In terms of power, expect approx 7-8hp to the wheels without an intake, approx 10-12hp with an intake. Don't confuse horsepower to the wheels with hp at the crank.

If there is any loss in low end, I have not noticed it. I do notice that I can spin the wheels a little more easily now, which suggests extra power on tap.

And you are automagic right !? Yup it seems the better air flow has made the power to the wheels greater and spinnage is easier. aint i a genious

I might try giving the clear tails a run on my own eventually but if I decide to buy them from you do I need to send you mine or do I just buy new ones through you? This is not for sure but just thinking.

Get the Y-pipe, you'll be very happy.
You shouldn't notice much (if any) noise difference.

I prefer Cattman's Y-pipe.

I have noticed that. Must be one of those benefits us in the IS dept have since we are always connected.

direct fit or some mods? Any noticable gains? cost?

No, I did a little mod, as it didn’t exactly "get" on the space on the fender.
I keep the right backpressure, and noise, doubling the exhaust volume when you need it.- I did notice a slight difference in power, but the major advantage was with the sound, as in WOT, the original muffler sounded like a bad vacuum cleaner (hissed a lot). I expect to have still a greater difference with the Y pipe. I don’t know the cost, as a friend gave it to me when he changed the muffler of his max 2001
