Dust Covers (Boots)...

Do I have the right part numbers for the dust covers? I did a search and found these in one of the resulting threads...

---Prices From NissanAutoParts.com---
For the front, 54055-85E00 COVER-DUST - $9.34
For the rear, 55241-65E00 BUMPER-BOU - $28.56

---Prices From NissanParts.cc---
For the front, 54055-85E00 Cover,dust Stru - $8.75
For the rear, 55241-65E00 Bumper,bound - $26.78

I guess if these are the right numbers, I'll be ordering from NissanParts.cc because their prices are better. Looks like it's gonna total $78.17 after shipping though...

Just want to make sure these are the right parts and prices for dust covers (boots) for my '97 Maxima.

Thanks!
-Nick

Yikes I got ripped off I paid 17 plus tax for my front ones and why are the rear boots more expensive than the fronts?

I ordered about $170 in suspension parts from nissanparts.cc.

I thought I had the right part numbers, but I only got the fronts right. The rears, I ended up getting 2 bell shaped rubber stops, which don't even go to a 4th gen.

The only thing I can tell you is that the rears ARE more expensive than the fronts, but I'm not sure how much. Hopefully, you have better luck in finding the FULL part number than I did.

To be SURE you get the right one, just go to nissanautoparts.com and ask for a part number. nissanparts.cc takes too long with e-mail, don't bother.

Definitely check the part #'s. There was a post this past summer that detailed all the part numbers. It may take you a while to find it though. When I got mine, they were $15 and $25, for the front and rears, respectively--and that was with a discount from my local dealer.

Best way to verify parts numbers is to call your local dealer for a price quote and get the part numbers that way. You will be surprised how many dealers match prices, saving you the hassle of mail order.

As for the reason why the rears cost more than the fronts, it is because the rear dust boot has the bump stops built in to it, and the front ones don't. i.e., the fronts have removable bump stops (not included) but with the rears, you will be getting the bump stops whether you want them or not.

Hope that helps.

I have the front and rear 3-D diagrams of both suspensions from nissan. Somehow I get different numbers that the ones you posted. I get 54050M for the front and 55240 for the rear.

If anyone has a FAX and a scanner, I can fax them over and you guys can SCAN & post them on the forum for others to see.

let me know,

JOHN

None needed really. When you compress the springs and take down the nut holding the assembly together, just disassemble and reinstall pieces remembering the order of the parts. You really can't mess it up.

Haynes or Chilton's service manuals: about $15 on www.amazon.com

Well worth it - Haynes is better.
