A few years back then wind really picked up and flipped my hood back at a show cracking it in the exact same spot as yours. right in that corner and the point of contact is just below the corner of the hood.

I got my glass done for 150. Professional.

That number u was quoted, shark man, is pretty high if u ask me.

Sounds like u had an interesting night tho, if the windshield got smashed and ppl went to jail.

I cracked my windshield in the same spot last June when I tried to carelessly remove the hood by myself. I felt it would be easier to remove the plenum and replace the valve cover gaskets with the hood removed. Safelite came the next day to install a new windshield that my insurance covered.

I checked the quick quote on safelites website and it was the same price as what the quoted me.

Also, insurance wouldnt cover it. I have liability, it doesnt cover vandalism

Wow, sorry to hear about that!

Although, I guess I wouldn't be too depressed if something like that happened to mine...my windshield is badly pitted and I wouldn't mind a new one.

Geez man, I didn't imagine it was that bad. Sorry bro, and I tried to get the wheels down a bit more, but he's pretty stuck on 300. Anyways, glad to see it's getting fixed at least...

all the other windows on my maxima are original and i have never had a single problem with any of them

long story short $331 seems like a lot. i do have free glass repair with my insurance, though...

What does the dealer charge?

i agree with ggenuis, it looks like the corner of the hood hit it. from the pics, it looks like where the impact happened is such a hard spot to get at (unless, of course, you hood is removed) even on the inside. but im sure the angle of the pic is leading me to believe otherwise.

If someone wanted to break your windshield why would they break it in such a hard to reach corner? It just makes zero sense. IF it was a vandal they would have had to use a tool and a hammer to put a break into that spot.

A vandal would just throw a rock right into the center of the windshield or wack it with a bat.

I know exactly who did it, this wasnt just an act of vandalism. If you read the first post about someone going to jail you would understand that. Also, when the safelife guy came out he said there was no way it was my hood. He said if it was my hood the glass would have been "lifted up" at the point of impact, not pushed down. Coupled with the dent on my fender, and the dent on the metal strip on the A pillar he said no doubt someone hit this

Is that even possible with hood struts? With the hood all the way up as far it can go there is still about an inch of room between the corner of the hood and the window

That's not possible at all with hood struts. The hood only goes so far up. Now, if you didn't have hood struts, both sides would spider crack like that. That damage was definitely done on purpose.

BS on that, like I said before my hood actually did flip up and cracked my windsheild in the corner just like yours and it did not "lift up" the glass. the glass was pushed down in that little corner and the pressure caused it to crack and spider web. I dont even see how its possible to lift the glass up by pushing down on it from the top versus underneath. The windsheilds are held in with a Urethane, and that sh#t holds on strong. The guys I saw do it use a flat thin putty like knife attached to a hammer drill to get underneath it and break the seal.

Mine only did it on one side, driver side just like Tigersharks

Once again, mine only cracked on one side,...but yes I do not have hood struts.

Safelite raped him because they are a larger company and use their reputation as a large well known name to set their prices. Smaller companies have less overhead and can charge much less.

In the 15 years Ive owned my car Ive gone through three windsheilds. All were done my a mobile service and were right around 125.00. That was labor and glass.

If he didn't have hood struts I'd say "Hey Brad, you probably did that yourself" lol But that's not the case.

They did charge a lot though.

yeah but the thing is how does your hood do that without you knowing? like if your hood overextends youre pretty much there to see it happen.
