The ultimate stalling problem
The ultimate stalling problem
Alright so I sold my project Max to my friend, and the car has always had a stalling problem. The fuel pump got replaced before I bought the car, and the owner had told me it was the IACV.
Well, the IACV was replaced and it didn't cure it.
Here's a list of what I know has been done to try to cure it:
-New camshaft position sensor
-Crankshaft position sensor
-EGR valve
-EGR pipes
-Cleaned manifold
-Knock Sensor
-MAF Sensor
-Both drive shafts and stabilizer links
-New Tranny Pan and Gasket
It's a 1997 Max, Automatic with 88,000 miles on it. He's saying it only stalls when he hits the brakes hard or fully depress them. Also the idling is a little iffy as well. Any input would be great, I'd love for this problem to actually be solved.
Could it possibly be a map sensor also?
Thanks guys

damn thats a baby of an engine.. i would love to have 88,000 miles.. anyways.. I had a similar problem.. i started by changing the spark plugs etc.. but it wasnt until i changed the fuel filter that the stalling stopped. hope that helps..
I haven't had this problem with my maxima, I had a similar problem with my old car (it was a pontiac though), the car would stall out only when you would hit the brakes, and it would eventually start back up (don't think it was more than a minute before it would start). It ended up needing the crank sensor and cam sensor replaced
Hope this helps

Could also be from the engine moving upon braking. Check the wiring harness as well as the intake ducting between MAF and TB.

Probably a bad brake booster causing a vacuum leak upon pressing the pedal. Disconnect the vacuum line and plug it to test. Take a SLOW drive to test, it will take both feet to stop without the booster.

I read the OP post and thought brake booster immediately.
OP check the vacuum lines connecting the booster to the IM.
