You blew a tire - probably by running over something pretty sharp. If your tires were in bad shape to begin with, it didn't take much to split them open. It happens all the time.

Wow, were they OEM wheels or knock offs? I have never seen or heard of a rim splitting in half! Must have been scary, glad you and your car are okay!
Off topic guys, isn't WHEEL what we call a tire + rim?

Yeah, I'm a little confused. I can't figure out if he's talking about the tire being split down the middle or the rim itself.

Lol, he clearly said wheel. You all fail at reading and comprehension. A wheel is a wheel, and a tire is a tire. Rim is term more appropriately applied to motorcycle and bicycle wheels. Rims was applied to car terminology by ricers and dumb kids sometime in the '90s. Get off heaths ***, as of yet the fail is not his.

Pretty curious to see why his rim, ahem, excuse me wheel split in two. Vague details, no pics, hmmm. BTW, I've driven nothing but American or European cars up until now and I've always used the term rim. Wheel is a bit elementary IMO and used to describe parts to someone that doesn't have an understanding of cars.
