Right move?

-Car was stolen 5 days ago.
-Retrieved it today with the whole center console missing 50 miles from where it was stolen...
-150k miles

not sure what to do. Do people buy cars with whole center console missing? Car runs great but needs new brakes, and now the whole centerpiece......

Should I replace and try to sell, or sell as is? opinions?

BTW I had an account here for a few years but its been soo long that I forgot my email, old name was Thrumulo for anyone who remembers.

Is your insurance going to pay to have it fixed?

Anything else damaged? Not an expensive fix for the center unit.

Nothing else seems damaged, well I have always had a check engine light on, and weird brake noises now... but everything under the hood seems secure.

Sorry for double posting, but just a heads up to people with shaved keys... GET THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK! especially if you are in CALIFORNIA, police told me that mexicans(illegal) are sweeping through California maximas, and the steering lock stops them as they do not have any tools.

My father did insurance , I think he figured that a 3k car wasn't worth extra $100 of w.e a year we are also immigrants (8 years), he had some sort of a delusional view on America lol.

Sorry I guess that was leaving out the tray on the bottom and the surrounding trim, but at least you can get an idea of how inexpensive it will be

Really? Think I should go to a junkyard first, or just ebay? Also does anyone know what the center unit is called? I'm not getting anything for the keywords that I am using (center unit, center console, center piece, center.....) is there a specific name for it?

Well if you go to a junkyard you will definitely be able to see first hand the quality of the pieces you need (more than likely you'll be able to pull that trim easily). It may be a little harder to find the radio and AC control unit but HEY, you never know. I was just pointing out options you have.

Yeah, thanks for that. There is 5 of those radio units in stock, so I think I can wait a bit, but my original ac unit was manual, wonder if its compatible??? Anyone know if its easy to pull wires also? Some of mine are cut and I wonder if I should try to pull them out or if I should cut them at the junkyard and try to tape together.

I'm assuming itw as all for the stereo, aftermarket?

At least the wires were not cut. Replace everything with J/Y pieces and a stock stereo. With a stock stereo and empty seats there should be no reason to steal it or break in. Put a kill switch on the starter or fuel pump so your car doesn't go anywhere.

Stereo was cool maybe about 7 years ago..The cop said that its an increasingly popular car for mexicans... runs like a horse and is easy to steal... all stock cars are getting stolen here...

Makes sense, a Maxima would make an inconspicuous ride for an illegal.

For $100 or less, you'll be back in business. Sell the car because of this? No way.

You got lucky they didn't trash your dashboard. By the way the center vents are popped up etc, it appears they know their way around the Maxima and how to remove everything correctly.

I don't know how many insurance installs I did at the car audio shop where I worked...but these were the best ones! Someone was VERY VERY nice taking the car apart like that. Most radio theft jobs have broken dashes, pry bar marks, and cut harnesses.

I agree with the other guys. <$100 and you're good to go.

Also, you can get a very basic alarm with starter kill for dirt cheap online. Like this: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...-Audiovox.html Installing it with a little bit of help online is pretty easy too. Or a shop would probably install it for <$100. Cheap insurance...

I think you should try selling it first, see if ANYbody at all is interested and see how much they're willing to give you. Then find out how much it is to replace. After you have both estimates, then see if you actually want to go through with the replacement. But to be honest, as a buyer I wouldn't buy that, or I would give you much lower than it really is worth.
