95 maxima battery drain - bcm fuse - grey connector
95 maxima battery drain - bcm fuse - grey connector
i've seen other posts in the forum about this, but none have helped me much to diagnose or fix my problem. so, here's hoping someone has seen the exact issue i'm seeing. i've never owned a nissan, this was bought as a fixer-upper car. from the top:
when bought, all power options were inop. did some research, some electrical work and found the BCM dead to the world. bought a junkyard BCM (because a $320 BCM from nissan on a $900 car was out of the question) and bam everything works again. come to find days later, battery kept going dead. if it sat over the weekend, it was dead monday morning. battery is fine, so started testing for draws. off the bat it was drawing roughly .090A (my understanding of specs is .025-.050). pulled BCM fuse, drops to .015-.030A which is where it needs to be. put the fuse back, got back into the BCM and started pulling harness after harness. after pulling the grey connecter (middle connector on the back side) it drops back to the acceptable range. but with it disconnected, nothing works so narrowing down a lock vs. p/w or left side vs right side was thrown out. wiring diagrams are impossible to find online. before i rip this massive harness out, can someone help me out thats been here before? i have pulled all the window switches with no change in draw.. so i'm stuck. help!

How long after you lock the vehicle are you measuring currnet draw? The bcm will sleep after several minutes. Check currnet draw after approx. 5 min of non activity.
If I were you I would probably skim this section (EL) of the Factory Service Manual. It has all the diagrams, testing procedures, etc that you'll (probably) ever need for tracking down and fixing your problem(s).
Could be the car isn't going into sleep mode. Did you unplug the hood switch or press it down before checking for a draw? Also the BCM is a huge circuit. Your better off pulling individual fuses from the interior fuse box to narrow down the circuit.

yes i've let the car sit. an hour later or even a day later the draw is exactly the same. hood sensor has been unplugged since i started testing. the BCM control all power locks, windows, and rear defrost correct? i have disconnected each one of those individually with no change in draw, so whats left other than the BCM itself? i have not yet pulled all fuses, only because (in my mind, correct me if i'm wrong here) its known what the BCM controls, so only those items/fuses need to be tested. my point being theres no need in pulling a radio fuse bc its not on the bcm circuit and not a reason for my draw, etc... is my logic wrong? I'm not trying to shortcut, just trying to eliminate doing unnecessary work. and thanks for the EL manual, thats going to help alot i really appreciate that

All the electical system of the vehicle, except for the engine and transmission, are mediated by the body computer module IIRC. I think theres a tool that can test if its bad, you shouldn't have to guess and pull fuses and all this that you are going through. I would go through that manual section that was posted, that was going to be my response, and see if you can narrow done the possible issues besides the BCM actually being bad because as you said its expensive to get a new one. Please tell me you got the warranty on the junkyard one?

If you have a 1999 maxima, this manual is ok for the mechanical stuff but DO NOT use it for electrical stuff. Nissan did some major re-wiring on the 1999.
If you want a manual, it would be better to go to one of these websites and get the FSM for your year car.
