leather vs vinyl

i have a 98 gle with black interior (leather) but read somewhere that the rear seats on the 4th gens are not leather but vinyl. i wanted to know if this is true so i can use a 303 aerospace on it instead of cleaning and conditioning it with lexol. also, the dash would also be vinyl, not leather right? sorry, i can't tell the difference because the leather has gotten hard, the previous owner probably didn't put the extra effort into maintaining it

Not 100% sure, but I don't think dash is leather. 96 Max brochure says "leather seating surface" that I guess applies to many cars with leather. "Seating" surface means the area in direct touch with a person's body is leather, and the other surfaces are not. I can easily tell from my RX300's leather seats, with my hand's feeling.
I think it's a cost saving way.

The dash is vinyl. The seating surfaces are leather, sides are vinyl.
On the rear arm rest, the front and rear "panels" are leather, sides are vinyl. The front head rests are vinyl, rear are leather. The leather will most likely get damaged by the sun on the top of the rear head rests. So treat this area often and try to avoid the sun
as much as possible.
The quality of the leather isn't so great so it probably will not ever be as soft you like (and definitely not to my liking on my max). My leather was starting to dry from the previous owner not treating it enough. I used Tanners Leather Cleaner and followed that with Tanners Leather Conditioner once every week for at least 2 months and the leather did soften quite a bit.
Tanners is available at Walmart.

So you mean the area where our head can touch is vinyl, and the area our body usuall don't touch is leather? If yes then that's the opposite of what I thought.

Oops I think I misunderstood you kmax. I think you said the front two headrests are vinyl all around, and two rear ones are all leather...

thanks for the help guys. i just went ahead and cleaned and conditioned all of the seats with lexol -they seem a bit better than before- and wiped down the dash with a damp microfiber cloth.
