does anyone know what this wire is?

it's the single black wire that connects on top of the a/c compressor. the first time I changed my alternator I went under and started unbolting and until I got the alternator out. and when I pulled the a/c compressor down I ripped the wire out. the plastic connectors were still connected, I just pulled the wire out of the connector. what does this wire do? and how can I fix it? I'm assuming it's power for it somehow. and it's started to approach 100 degrees now so I need my ac lol.

I can upload pics if need be.

pics would help. Test with multi meter and see if it is indeed power

This post confuses me. It seems you know where the wire came from, the compressor, so why not just plug it/splice back in where it goes? :gotme: Edit: who cares what the wire does? It makes your ac work...plug it back in where it goes and be done with it :chuckle:

I believe we're talking about the connector for the field coil (E41 on FSM HA-43 [Manual]/HA-93 [Auto]), I just went out and looked at mine and it looks like that's what it is (based on location and it being single-wire).

As for fixing it, you can try to force the wire back into the connector (not very secure, but may work for a while), you can get a junkyard connector and just splice it in, or you can repair the connector.

Definitely the power wire to engage your A/C compressor. Gonna have to get it repaired somehow.

I was unsure because when the wire is unplugged, and I turn on the ac, I can hear it kick on, the rpms drop down a little for a split second, and I can see a small voltage drop but then it goes back up. but it didn't blow cold. I plugged it back in when I went to work today, and the ac worked, but after I hit the first speed bump down my street, it came undone and said f it. lol

^^^ gotta love speed bumps  at least you know where it goes and that it makes your ac work. Good luck.

def power source for AC, problem found, now time for fix

GGENIUS 05-11-2012 10:06 AM

its as easy as junkyard, shrink tube, heat gun, and some electrical tape because you never leave bare wires hanging around.

your wire too activate your compressor clutch
