What does this pipe do?

Hey guys,

I bought a 97 Maxima last weekend and it runs great (other than the back left shock needing to be replaced). One thing I noticed though when I popped the hood today is that there's a pipe that isn't connected to anything on one end. I'm not sure what it does or the significance of it... is this a major problem? Not really much of an under-the-hood kind of guy haha. Thanks guys.

It's a transmission breather hose. It's fine as is, needs to be open to atmosphere.

that looks like the transmission breather tube; it's not supposed to be hooked up to anything.

This seems to come up frequently. Is it in the stickies?

It looks like you have a crazy radiator crack splashing everywhere. No?

This is true but can't knock people for being observant to notice that a hose is not connected to something. Only if they could find vacuum leaks just like this hose....

It's been in the stickies for a decade. The odds are you'll come up with nothing new on this forum, unless it's related to extreme high mileage issues.

The best part about this place is active users, who don't mind helping.

Where? it can't be real obvious if it is in there. I don't see it in the how to's.

Post No 10 in http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...e-updated.html.

It's not obvious and searching won't help. But it's there.

That said, everything is on this site. You won't come up with anything new. Other than new owners who are looking to get to know their new used car )).
