car wont shift at redline!

i just recently did alot of work to my maxima, put a new 5th gen clutch, ss clutch line,brand new master and slave all parts came from courtesy nissan.
before i had all that installed my car didnt like to shift at redline and now after all this i just hit 500 break in miles and decided to give it a try it still feels rough going into gear shifting from third to fourth.under normal driving it goes in smooth no problem but once i take it to 6800 it doesnt seem to want to go in smoothly. i had this problem before and i thought it could be some of the parts i changed but i changed everything! can anyone help???

What gear oil are you running? What condition are your synchros in?

Aside from the fact that youre not using the proper type of gear oil it could also just be the tranny as stated before.

NISSAN states GL-4 only. GL-4/5 does not work. GL-5 is to "slick" and doesnt allow enough friction on the synchros to do theyre job. Searching will yield a thousand posts about acceptable oils. I use STA Lube GL-4.

When I had my 98 Max 5-speed, I used Redline MT90. The gearbox developed noisy as hell gear problems about 100K miles later. You could hear the synchros wailing when I would downshift to 1st gear like 100 feet away.

I'm sticking with OEM this time in my 98 I30.

Most Nissan dealers use GL-5 out of ignorance. Most current techs arent familiar with a 16 year old car. Get good GL-4 dino oil and be happy.

I can see that happening. I have twice been screwed over by Nissan dealerships. Liitle did they know that I did my homework and contacted Nissan corp usa.

OK. I've done a little research because I'm about to do my gear oil. I used Redline MT-90 before and it looks like I'm heading right back to it.

The Nissan FSM specifys GL-4 80W90. Some of the oils mentioned here are 85W90 GL-4. Redline MT-90 is 75W90.

I'm going with Redline MT-90 again because;
Redline MT-90 is full synthetic GL-4
Redline MT-90 exceeds the recommendations of gear oil for Nissan by being 75W90 rather than the OEM 80W90.

Oh, and get GL-4 only......GL-4 only. Stay away from that GL5 GL4 GL3 combo nonsense. The salesclerk behind the counter will say its OK, but it's your tranny.

I've used Redline MT-90, MT-90/MTL mix, Amsoil MTG, or the Napa stuff. All have been good for me.
