I need to know what this part is!!

my sunroof was stuck in the down position, as opposed to the UP position, flush with the roof. I tried to force it up into the closed position, and this piece of metal snapped and fell in my lap. I need to know what it is/does/where it goes.

While I'm on the topic -- prior to breaking this piece, my sunroof motor would run but the motor would not move at all. It started out moving slowly, then it wouldn't seal completely in the roof (one corner would be shut, one wouldn't), then it just completely wouldn't shut at all. Eventually I just ended up breaking it. Any insight to my problem?

it appears to be part of the track that pivots to allow for tilt up and down motion.

good way to see is look at the other side. almost everything is doubled on the other side.

I have fixed my sunroof once before (it broke due to the cable coming out of the fitment) and it was probably about 3 years ago. To my memory though I would guess its either part of the lifter, or the part that the cable goes into that slides along the rail.. if theres a hole/slot then its the metal piece the cable goes into from one of the sides. and it is also likely because if that thing is broken then your sunroof will not move (mine was stuck open). So if your sunroof was intermittently moving in the first place then most likely the cable from that side dislodged itself from that metal track piece thus making your sunroof not move correctly, then eventually it just shat itself. Either way I am pretty sure you're dropping that assembly out soon. Hope this helps.

Yes that piece pivots up and down i believe on the track as a guide...like mentioned everything is doubled and match the opposite side...look at both sides and you will see what they mean.. a repair kit iirc is about 55-75 bucks pending which dealer has it an where youre located, and you need to pull the whole sunroof assembly to repair it...so if it were me....and i could source a working sunroof locally for under 150 id buy it and swap them....otherwise youre looking at spending the majority of a day fixing this and from what i recall it requires 2 people once you get to a certain point...entire headliner needs to be removed along with anything attached to it and while youre in there lemme suggest checking all 4 drain tubes to make sure theyre not gummed up

Thank you so much guys. I had a good feeling it was a lifter mechanism. I would rather swap a working sunroof in, but the cheapest I could find was over 200 >
Does anyone know if this piece is included in the repair kit?

Good call MAXIMA_STYLE about checking the drain tubes =) I dropped the assembly this morning to get a better look, and there was a good amount of mud/gunk in two of the four.

Do you have any salvage yards near you? You could prolly get that piece for $5 at a u-pull-it/salvage yard
