ECM needs to be replaced. Part #2371C-4L866RE. Quote of $1100

Hi All
I have a 1999 Maxima, V6 SE
Recently the car would just crank but not start. The "security" light comes on when I put the key in. Took it first to AAA, they ran diagnostics and said that the security system is not letting the car start and a Nissan dealer would have to look at it.
After reading on these forums and others I tried the passenger door, two times lock/unlock trick. Didn’t work. (If there are any other specific steps let me know.)
Dropped it off at the dealer who charged $49 for diagnostics. They finally called me said the key wouldn’t register & the ECM needs to be replaced. Part #2371C-4L866RE. Quote of $1100.

Does this sound legitimate? Any opinions?

Search for NATS immobilizer or 99 immobilizied. That's what my conclusion is from the info provided.

Agreed.

NATS is acting up on you, the dealer should simply be able to re-program the NATS module and the key accordingly.

No ECU replacement necessary.

More like $30 to $85 from what I've read over the years.....

I recently paid $30 for a programmed key from a local locksmith for one of my 99 Max's.

Called local locksmith

Hi all,
Thank you all for your replies. The dealer

I have called in a local locksmith who quoted $135 for new set of keys. Do they also reprogram the car remote?
That would be nice.
