My advice is to check ALL the fuses. There is a fuse box inside the car, and one under the hood near the battery. Check ALL the fuses in them both. Chances are you'll find a dead one somewhere.

the clock is likely dead....try getting one from a junkyard car...

If the cd player is factory, then it's just too damn old to worry about fixing it lol....get a aftermarket head unit and have it installed...

i would check fuses for sure. i have 2 extra working clocks if you need one. i also just bought a 96 gle parts car for my 5spd swap. if you can think of anything else you may need let me know. just a little shipping charge or you can pick them up if your ever in the charleston area.

Clock and CD player are known problems on our cars. Does the radio am/fm part and the display work? If so it's not a fuse. It's common for these cd decks to go into error mode where they won't read a CD or the mechanism inside falls. There was a recall on many of these head units back in the day that has long expired. Mine was replaced by dealer twice. Possible the previous owner had a replacement non stock deck in the car then swapped the non working factory deck back in to sell the car? Maybe didn't even hook it back up to power? As for clock these have terrible ground problems and gremlins like the Maxima in general. Mine resets all of the time and only works about half of the time. I just don't feel like tearing into the dash to fix or replace it.

I agree that the CD player/head unit is probably junk, especially if it is a Bose. The clock is probably repairable, they suffer from cold solder connections. But if you are not a fix it yourself person, then replace the clock.

My CD player also has an error message when I use it. I tried cleaning it with one of those CDs with a a brush on it. No luck. I just use the tape deck with my smartphone now! It's pretty clear with the BOSE surround sound. There is a way to add AUX to the stereo but it requires soldering and I believe if your CD doesn't work on some stereo units, the AUX hack won't work either.
