Maybe I said it wrong.
Where do I buy the best parts/not eBay, but rather not pay dealer prices/ or what's the brand(s) I should seek out?
I don't want to source transmission parts from a local auto store...maybe napa if I had to.
-5 speed VLSD
Anyone have a suggestions?
Thanks.

But you don't have a VLSD transmission and converting your trans to VLSD with OEM parts is more entailed than just swapping parts. The tranny casing will have to go to a machine shop. ...First plan...find an VLSD transmission and buy that.Have you ever rebuilt a transmission before? I know I haven't but they can be a nightmare your first couple times and I'd rather have a person that does it day in and day out do it (plus you get a warranty).

If you have the cash call the company I gave you the website for or start searching locally for an ACTUAL tranmission rebuilding business. I can't stress enough to be patient with finding the actual VLSD trans, they are like gold.

Where is this coming from? I have a 5 speed VLSD=Gold, buddy. Check yourself. Anyways, I'm just looking for good parts to take to a pro. I'm feeling like making my own thread to try to avoid the overflowing ignorance your spitting at me. Good day.

....Its not that hard to find a VLSD trans. 2 of my cars actually have VLSD in them. They are expensive but one was my I30t.....which came with it. I have another 4th gen where i found and bought a very low mileage VLSD out of a AE for $750 shipped. Didnt take much searching either i bought it because i couldnt find an open diff, I only wanted to spend $400.

By the time some of you are done with these VLSD 5spd build you could have done a much better HLSD 6spd for just a little more maybe less.

So let me take back what i said because its becoming a little like "Why? The 5spd sucks", atleast this is not a completely stupid thread or else I would be flaming half of you but:

~If you have the money GET A 6SPD.
~If you dont just buy a 5spd and use it until you get tired of repairing it then GET A 6SPD.

The only reason to build a 5spd is you have a Quaife Differential.....and just forget it you will not find one and they cost $1000. It will be $2500 by the time you are done.

Thats the spirit. What you will need to know is. The FWD 6spds all have the same Gearing the Final Drive is what sets them a part.

02-03 6spd Maxima: 3.8
04-06 SpecV/Maxima: 4.1
02-03 SpecV: 4.4

The 5.5 gens 6spd has the longest FD, the 02-03 SpecV has the shortest. I personally thing the 4.1 FD would fit an NA 4th gen perfectly plus its the best as far as price is concerned. A 3.0 may be ok with the 4.4 but its just not necessary for a 3.5. Another thing is: ALL SPECV TRANSMISSIONS HAVE THE HLSD Most maxima 6spds are open diff, while you can just buy a HLSD and pop it in a open diff 6spd trans may the lord be with you on finding a place to straight up buy an HLSD.

What you do need to know is if you choose the sentra transmission(which is soon as most of you see its price you will), you have to find a 6spd Maxima's Bellhousing(aka clutch plate) and swap all the crap from the sentra trans onto it.

Also the transmission mount has to be relocated. You will need to buy the shifter cables AND shifter. You are going to have to also find somebody to make a 5spd flywheel ring fit the 6spd flywheel for the CKPS(PM Aackshun). And the motor pretty much has to be dropped to get the transmission in, yes its that big. Obviously you are going to need 6spd axles.

Its not an easy process i have helped install a 6spd with a friend on here it was not very fun getting it in but the 4.1FD plus a the 3.5 transformed his car. I'll go as far as saying it made a bigger difference than the 3.5 itself.

More work, huh? Sweet. Lol. I hope this 5 speed lasts for long enough for me to want to take this on. Might be driving back down to Texas to say hey to aackshun again when I need this.

yes, of all the things to do as far as 4th/5th gens are concerned swapping a 6spd from a sentra is THE most difficult project to tackle. Turboing comes in a very close second, then swapping a 3.5, then supercharging after full bolt ons.
