JDM Vq30

Does anybody know the difference in this engine to ours.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nissan-Maxim...a3c5b3&vxp=mtr

or is it simply a vq30 w/ a fancy cover?

Mostly the intake manifold. That price is a rip though

Not sure. At stated probably just the MEVI (or whatever intake there is). But the price is damn high. Buy 05-08 VQ35 it will be chaper

shee...could prolly upgrade all internals of a vq30 for that much. crank, rods, pistons and perhaps some head work.

The motor more than likely is low mileage and that is what you are paying for, in Japan they have to go through the JCI (Japanese Car Inspection) so that is why there are usually crate motors available with low mileage.

most JDM cars that come over here and drivetrains have 40,000km-110,000km on them. Japanese take pretty immaculate care of their vehicles as well

ya i have buddies round me selling 2004 maxi engines and i would hit them up for a 3.5 before id spend that much for that. i wasnt considering buying the thing, i just wondered if there was something special bout it, forged internals or the like.

No, just low mileage and usually not ragged on. There is less landmass to drive on in Japan and Okinawa. Since Okinawa is the "Puerto Rico" of Japan stuff comes from there also. Speed limits are lower as well. Highest highway speeds at least in Okinawa was 80km/hr = around 55mph.

you pay out the azz to a point, but you can get lots of parts shipped from Japan that you cant get locally especially on older vehicles. buying lots of parts at once saves on shipping

Maxgtr2000 is completely right... However I think the price should be no more than 1200. I get it has a MEVI and its prob in good shape but askin too much imo

unless you are buying RB or some other stupidly rare japanese motor....just get stuff from here. they only thing really worth getting is the DET internals and manifold, but even then by the time you are done buying all that stuff, and installing it, it would have been easier and possibly cheaper to get a 3.5 and put forged stuff in it.

now if you are doing it just to be unique thats a completely different story.

I too have been considering this purchase...the motor looks really clean and like the idea of very low mileage. I woud consider the 3.5 but after reading and all the extra parts (new timing set, cam spacers, adapter plates, etc.) it seems like a huge headche.

It's either this or find a low mileage VQ with the 00VI, would be a little extra work but not as bas with doing a full swap.

JDM doesn't mean anything when it comes to Maximas. You could buy a low mile VQ30 out here, put the MEVI plenum on it (find one on here or ebay or something for a few dollars), have change left over for headers and a big MAF and SAFC. That would be my setup if I wanted to spend 2g's all said and done.

You are forgetting the VQ30DET. even though that is a unique swap and rare for us.

In Japan they had a VQ20DE, VQ25DE and VQ30DE. All had MEVIs.
FYI the only reason it was called MEVI was because someone here at maxima.org 1st discovered it on a Maxima in the middle east. In reality, the MEVI was everywhere EXCEPT the US.

Isn't that swap almost impossible except for major altering...that a motor for rear wheel drive cars right and won't bolt up

from what ive come to understand, yes. major mod's would be necessary. too bad the japanese didnt put awd/turbo setups on the maxi, imo it coulda been a 4 door skyline. IMO
