Follow this diagram and you can have all monitors set in 60 - 70 miles.
I've done this quite a few times.

All you need to do is set that catalyst monitor or the EGR and you're set to go.
Being a '97 the vehicle can pass an inspection with a maximum of 2 un-set monitors.
At least that's the tolerance here in NY.
What was the code?
Did you fix the problem?
If not, then drive "around" that system's monitor and pass that inspection!

Good Deal
Good to hear buddy.
Let me know how it all turns out.
It's easiest to set them while you have a handheld scanner plugged in.
That way you know when they turned on.
Got my handheld at Advance Auto for around $100 (2nd best version)
The only thing the other scanner did was tell you recommended fix.
But with our '97's the codes are quite vague at times.
The Drive Cycle is fairly easy to follow but can be picky at times.
Gotta love that little temp sensor.
Had to fab it into my Injen Cold Air Intake...wasn't a good fit originally.
Couple screws and home garage mechanic skills and I had it workin in no time.
Glad to be of assistance.
If ya need anything else shoot me a message and we'll figure out some sort of solution.
Off to deal with a lovely misfire...again...yaaaaaay.
Good Luck!

Both will work out.
As I said before...the Drive Cycle can be picky at times.
I have tried both and yes they work.
The one I sent worked out alright for me.
Keep having to drive around the EVAP monitor to pass inspections.

I had dreams once...then I looked at my Maxima and decided against it.
That and when ur tranny blows up and the trans shop didnt fix it right...interest lost.
My Maxima became and still is a money *****. (I can say that right?)
I like to daily the Maxima.
