R.I.P i30 :(

I was headed to work in my '96 i30 in the bad weather. I only made it half a block. Someone driving a red truck pulled out in front of me not judging the distance properly. I swerved to miss him and slid on some snow over a curb and into a street light.

The body damage doesn't look severe but the impact was enough to deploy both air bags for whatever reason. Most of the damage was done around the front driver side corner. From what i could tell that was damaged; control arms, strut, tie rod and possibly steering rack but not sure. Body range consist of broken windshield, driver fender and corner light.

This car will be greatly missed. It has been good to me over the years..

Just in case anyone was wondering, I wasn't driving with the donut when the accident occurred. I took the regular wheel off to prevent damage to the tire while we were pulling it out of the ditch.

Sorry to hear about your accident, but it sounds like you are OK, which is the important part.

Aww man! I hope you're okay? And did that truck stick around to apologize or anything like that?

woww that sucks. yeah, did the dude stick around? thats why it sucks when you swerve to avoid hitting someone sometimes, it can go from their fault to them scott free.

Sorry for the accident but glad you weren't hurt. If the steering rack wasn't damaged then replacing those other parts won't cost too much. I got 2 capa certified fenders sitting in the garage. I got them for $65 each online and will install them after I paint them when the weather warms up.

sorry to hear that. i had a sentra completely destroyrd by a hit n run. it was just parked there on a snowy day and i walked up to it like a few hours later. guy slid into it hard then left.

I'm always weary in bad weather now because of other guy. My I30 now only goes out in bad weather when absolutely necessary.

I am sorry for your loss but the main thing is that you are ok. Are you thinking of rebuilding the car or parting her out? If you decide to part it out I would be interested in the grill and hood.

Glad you are ok,
Andy

Sorry to hear that, thankfully you are in one piece. I recommend that you get rid of it...The car will never be the same after a front collision even if someone can fix it the best they can...What's your next move? What car do you plan on getting?

I won't be fixing it. The cost in just parts alone wouldn't be worth fixing. It's time to move on and let it go. I will be parting it out, but only locally. I don't want the hassle of shipping parts across the country. So if you live near SLC, Utah and you want something. Hit me up.

I'm perfectly fine from the accident. The guy that cut me off didn't even stop. ****er just kept driving. I don't know if he saw me, or if he just didn't care. Really pissed me off though.

How fast were you going? Speed limit or slower due to conditions?

The speed limit was 30mph. I was doing maybe 15mph before even attempting to slow down. There was a lot of snow though. And it had snowed the day before so it was pretty icy under the snow as well.

Yeah. What was stupid is it seemed almost like he did it on purpose. There is no way he didn't see me coming. I guess it's possible he got slightly stuck trying to turn out and didn't anticipate it.
