Foglight wires

i have a 1996 GXE (auto) w/o ABS and powerseats.

does anyone know if my car is pre-wired with foglight wires? i saw on maximadriver.com's "howto" section that '97 GXE autos w/o ABS & driver powerseats are not pre-wired for foglights. i was wondering if it's the same with '95 and '96.

please help!

i just took a look on my 96 GXE, auto, with Security and Convenience Package. I took out the two "orange" lamps (one called turn signal, the other called parking light?) and saw two connectors. I checked both sides, both have the same connector. Two wires on the connector, one is black (ground) and the other is orange/black, exactly the colors that my Haynes book indecates.

jhlee_99, I think you had better check that connector out; it only took me 5 minutes total. Use a flat-headed screwdriver and gently insert it into the gap between the twp "orange lamps, pop out the "parking light" (towards the side of the car, NOT the front one which has a hiden screw just behind the "parking light". Then take the front light (turn signal) out and you should be able to see if there is a connector hanging there. On my car the connector is at the same level as the bumper light opening.
Hope you have the connector.

I have a '97 GXE with a power driver's seat and NO ABS.

I have the connectors.

So I think ABS has nothing to do with it.

Yes...pop your hood so you have a good amount of light showing through to the bottom of your car.

Slide underneath the front of the car, and look up where the fogs are.

If you see a grey wire harness next to each hole (a little above it, actually) - Then you have the wiring for them!

What I meant in my previous post is to take out those orange colored lamps (turning signal and parking or called side-marking?), and see through those "factory" openings. Don't cut the fog lamp openings.

jiaxima96,

thanks! that's really helpful. i'll try it tomorrow morning. it's dark outside now. i hope i have them!

by the way, i got a quote from a nissan dealer (out of town) for these foglight and housing for $150 including shipping. according to them, these lights will fit 95 thru 98 maximas. and includes all wiring and the switch (on the steering column). i think that's an awesome deal! what do you think?

If it is genuine Nissan fog lamps, then 95 and 96 are the same, 97 through 99.5 are the same, but NOT 95 through 99.5 although switches are all the same. To me, 95 and 96 lamps are like rectangular, 97 and up are like a little triangularly shaped.

No, I don't think they would.

Where is that dealer at?

The cheapest I've seen them is $170.00 at Courtesy Nissan.

That's a good deal.

the thing I know is that on my 97 gxe Auto with no CC , my fogs werent prewired. The relay and switch were wired but the fogs werent. So you just have to run the wires from the fogs to the relay box.

I'm getting a pair of free aftermarket foglights soon, if I already have the wires, can I use it with aftermarket foglights?

You'll either have to buy a new stalk from Nissan or rig a switch of your own.

you would have to buy one or you can find the socket from the factory one and splice a switch in there. wont be too hard of a job.

yeah, that's what i thought too. the '97s and on have more of a triangular shape...weird. anyways, because the deal is so good, i need to call back and make sure it wasn't $150 per side, since this kit includes all wires and the switch. i'm not sure if their open tomorrow, but i'll give them a call and post an update.

well, i checked today and it looks like my car is not pre-wired for foglights. so, looks like 4th gens GXE autos without ABS and power driverseats did not get this pre-wiring from the factory. any idea which kit i need in addition to foglight kit in order to wire it up correctly?

I listened.

But I disagree with ABS....I have power driver's seat and NO ABS, and I'm pre-wired.

I already said this...maybe noone listens to me anymore.

Hi jhlee_99:
ABS has nothing to do with fog pre-wiring. I don't have ABS either but I have fog connectors. I am nearly 100% sure that "GXE with S/C package is pre-wired" is a good statement.
Read Kashoggio's post again and you'll probably find yourself OK, ie. your car is already pre-wired from switch to the relay box. All you have to do is to wire from relay box to fog connectors then plug them to the fog lights. Than's much easier than wiring through the firewall. BTY you need two fog light connectors.
