Here's the problem, I have a 95 Maxima SE with an automatic transmission with 130k. As of 2 days ago my car shifted fine then I raced another car at a high rate of speed. Turned the car off for an hour or so and left to run errands, the car was struggling to go up every hill and jerking to drop into a lower gear, I had my mechanic look at it in the morning and drove it and drove perfectly. The next day car drove fine to work then on the way home I got to the on ramp to the interstate and my car shifted fine gaining speed then I got to 70 mph and let off the gas and it went into neutral. My car got completely stuck in 3rd gear and wouldn't drop gear or go to 4th. the OD worked fine. I got off the interstate drove it to my house "in 3rd gear" turned it off, let the mechanic drive it with me in the car. started it and the overdrive light flashed several times, turned the switch on and off and then it went off. Drove all 4 gears with no problems interstate and all. we are stumped, he thinks its a sensor in the transmission but all the threads have no mention of this. HELP ME PLEASE. It's my dd and I love it to death.

 

It's going into fail safe mode for some reason, the flashing OD light indicates there's a code stored. Have the vehicle scanned and find out what code is stored in the transmission TCU.

 

Sound like a tps issue i just went through the same thing when its acting up are the shifts from 1st to 2nd hard?

yes, if I was to let off the gas between shifts it would lag into gear. what is the TPS?
