threading for control arm ruined

a couple years ago when i replaced my control arms, i ended up ruining two of the threads that accept the 22mm bolts (the large bolts used to secure the control arm to the car). i was pressed for time and screwed the bolts in anyway

i don't have any serious commitments at the moment so i want to go back to fix what i messed up. i do need to replace some of my front suspension and take off my control arms so i can't just pretend like nothing's wrong

has anyone ever run into a similar scenario/have advice on how to tackle this? the only solution i can think of is to drill the metal and tap out larger holes. i'm pretty intimidated by fact that the bolts are so large, and that they are on the underside of the car...

Best option is to drill them out and use Helicoil inserts.
The more involved option would be to replace the subframe/K member.

These are your only options.

i was under the impression that helicoil inserts are for lighter jobs - any reason why i would do that as opposed to the traditional drill and tap?

You could go bigger, but you'd probably need to enlarge the holes in the bushing clam to fit the new bolts.

I think it would be a better idea to keep the same size threads and use OEM bolts and not mod anything else. They are only torqued to around 100 ft-lb, strength should not be an issue.

I dont know your abilities but the best repair would be to drill it out then chamfer the hole then helicoil it then weld around the helicoil then grind flat but a regular helicoil will be just fine
