1995 Maxima CEL on with Multiple Codes :/
1995 Maxima CEL on with Multiple Codes :/
Hello everyone, I am new around here. Clearly this can be recognized by this being my first post lol. I registered and signed up because I am having issues with my dear beloved Maxima.
I got the car from someone who I thought was trustable, however, I have came to realize they are the complete opposite from that. I should have further checked the car out but I didn't, and now it's costing me.
Anyways, the car has started running funny. During its episodes I noticed that the CEL wasn't coming on. Among digging around I found out that the ECCS fuse had been pulled out of the box and left out. WTF. Alright, so now that I have put the fuse back in, my CEL has emerged. I have never been so happy to see one.
So a little more about how she is acting. Terrible acceleration, clearly misfiring, starts up every time as it should however. It just has the "puff puff" sound as opposed to having one solid sound. I have pulled every connector off of each coil pack searching for a sound change. All of them made a difference except cylinder one.
So when I pulled my codes I got this...
1005: EGRC Solenoid/Valve
0407: Crankshaft Position Sensor (REF)
0605: Cylinder 4 Misfire
0201: Ignition Signal (primary) (Points to 0407)
0608: Cylinder 1 Misfire
0304: Knock sensor
Any ideas, maybe where to start?

Cyl 1 misfire is probably an injector. Egr is most likely clogged, which is causing the egr code. KS is possibly piggy backing off another code. And if im thinking right, the crankshaft position sensor can cause many problems, even to the point to where the car wont start, so that probably needs replaced. I would run some fuel system cleaner. Much info in the fluids section of the org to say which one would be best to use. Cyl 1 injector probably needs replaced, but maybe the cleaner will fix it.
Also, if i were you, i would stop driving the car if possible. Its not good for it to be running on 5 cylinders.
Good luck solving your problems. And sorry you were screwed over. That happened when i bought one of mine. It sucks.

Ive been on the .org for 2-3 months, on the 1st day i joined i just started reading the 4th gen threads from the latest one and i read more every time i can..im now up to page 550....ive learned alot just reading the problems and replys of the fellow .orgers over the years!!
anyway, Good luck I hope ur max is easy on your wallet!

The cyl 1 mis-fire could also be the coil pack. swap it with either cyl 3 or 5 and see if the misfire moves.
The crankshaft sensor (REF) could be cleaned and maybe it would work, but that is less than a 50/50 chance. Clean it, inspect the metal tip and verify that it id flat and has no chips. Measure the resistance of it, should be between 470 and 570 ohms.
Reset the ECU and see what codes come back.

Updated Information/Stuff Left Out:
The 3 Rear Coilpacks are new. I replaced them all because they were out of spec. Further inspection shows that the wires on the harness for Cyl 1 have either been shaved back or have melted for whatever reasons. They all appear to be making contact but I can't tell without a meter and a diagram. My meter took a poop on me so I'm SOL on ohming until I can think of a friend I can snag one off of. My pockets are suffering ATM so I can't afford to throw money at her. I have to play my cards right the first time.
I climbed under it and unplugged the crank sensor and then attempted to start her. She would would crank but not fire. She has never given me issues starting, just running.
To whomever mentioned it, I'm guessing injectors or specifically injector one is known for dying?
Also, the factory airbox has separated right behind the MAF which I know will cause problems. I've done my best to seal the leak for now. Which brings me to a question. I've wanted to bypass it ever since I realized it was busted, there is a aluminum piece that has two connectors on it for the Vacuum lines but I haven't been able to find it alone. I've seen a bazillion people with Maximas having it though.
I've owned Hondas, Mazdas, BMWs, Chevrolets, ect..the Vq has been the most temperamental and expensive motor I've owned.
These forums aren't on Tapatalk are they?

On my first max, i had 2 of the injecters go out on me within 500 miles of each other. I don't remember which ones they were though. A bad injector can cause most, if not all, of the issues you stated. And yes, the messed up piping can cause a lot of problems. The MAFs on our cars are fairly sensitive. But it isn't throwing a code, so idk. As for the aluminum piece, have you checked ebay? I got my CAI kit from there. It had that center pipe and a pipe to run it into the fender. I think it was $60 or $70 at the time. Was a few years ago. They had just that piece of pipe, the MAF adaptor, and a filter on there for $30 I think. But I'm not sure if it's there now.
