Did I pay a fair price? (newbie driver)

I just had some work done on my car (current specs are below). I purchased The front/rear breaks, rotors and AC compressor from rockauto.com thanks to the recommendation from a member here. The mechanics simply installed the pieces for me. The also did some wiring near battery because the car rumbled upon startup. Whatever they did fixed the rumbling noise.. Pic of the receipt below shows the other stuff they worked on.

Honesty from working at shop for ten years that seems high.

In my neck of the woods, that's considered fair.
That is also why I now do all my own work.

If you bought all the parts, why is there a charge for parts on the bill? Is that the cost of Freon???

those r some pretty good prices considering in the midwest they charge 75 per axle for brake jobs and the compressor would have ran u a easy 250 so u got a nice deal. ur a lucky one cause most shops charge u even more for having ur own parts because some of the profit comes from getting wholesale priced parts and selling them to u for what u pay at the store. alot of people hate working on their cars but i wouldnt be able to stomach dropping cash like that even if i didnt love what i do

i don't think it's a terrible price for mechanic work, but i have a hard time swallowing paying a cent for that stuff because everything you did besides the AC compressor is super simple (not that the AC compressor is difficult but it's a little more involved).

+1. Was going to say exactly the same thing. Price is fair. It really does pay to learn and do things yourself. Especially brakes.

For sure. These days I loath working on my Max but I could never afford those prices. I have more danged headaches ordering the correct parts for a car that switched many parts in the same model year, and that makes me nutz!

I think the bill looks ok depending on your location of course. But learning how to fix your car can save you a lot of money.

Its fair.

AC evac and fill is about 120. AC compressor is about 150. Front and rear brakes is about 200.

Maybe the guy nickle and dimed you on the new cable and adding grounds and fixing the hard starts, but if he is going by the book then he is supposed to charge you for it.

Next time, if u think its high negotiate with the guy. U can ALWAYS negotiate. I do, if i feel like im being cheated

but honestly, most of that stuff, especially the hard starts and AC fill u could have done yourself..with our help of course

Price seems fair. A certified mechanic or shop has bill to pay. Insurance, rent, salaries, tools, utilities. A DIY mechanic doesn't have those overhead costs related to the repair work of his/her vehicle.

Totally acceptable, hope your happy with the work.
